Currently theoretical. Xboxen connect only to each other and official
servers. They do use an open network (the Internet), however.
Theoretically it would be possible to introduce malware (viruses,
worms, trojans, etc.) to the Xbox Live network if one manages to find a
vulnerability in the Xbox operating system that could be exploited with
suitably constructed TCP/IP packets - a memory overflow that would
enable one to run unsigned code in the Xbox. To accomplish this, you
could try to create a fake Xbox Live client (or even server) or just
manipulate the packets sent by a real Xbox client.
However, the Xbox console and the Live network have been designed with
at least some degree of security in mind, so accomplishing an attack
like this would not be a trivial task. And there would probably be
little to gain from an exercise like this - apart from the fame and
satisfaction gained from a successful hack, of course.
