I have just gone back to FS9 with VOZ and I have to admit that even with all
the new bells and whistles on FSX , FS9 is a much better flight Sim!
I will upgrade my machine at some point, but I still really enjoy FS9 with
all, its add-ons and benefits. It is truly a hard act to follow.

This is shaping up to be very odd... Developers are going to have to cope
developing add ons for two sims. I want to be the first to suggest that
the big market for the next 12 months will still be FS9 and if they want to
make money they'll need to focus on that market.

Personally, I'm not buying any new software for FS9. FSX stuff will be
coming out in the next months. It may take 6 months for some of my
favorites such as FS Navigator, Ground Environment, Ultimate Terrain, etc.
but I think it would be foolish to invest in FS9 add ons at this point. FSX
has the potential to be better than FS9. But it is a long way (and a lot of
money away) from being there now. >> Stay informed about: After playing about with FSX |

I don't think so Dally. The psychology is all wrong. People will buy for
future stuff not for last years' model. That is of course, IMNSHO...

I reckon you're right, Quilljar. My present setup does wonders with FS9 but
hasn't hope in hell of being able to run FSX properly. Even so, I'm now only
using freeware to add to my fleet of addon aircraft. Payware would seem to
be an unwise investment since my next hardware upgrade and future FSX
versions could render the FS9 payware obsolescent.

I think you're correct. That's human nature, and that is just the way
it is. There'll be moaning and groaning at first, but in the end
generally no one wants to be left behind by the train (there will be
exceptions, no doubt). >> Stay informed about: After playing about with FSX |

Or there are a certain percentage of people that just enjoy complaining and
don't really want to find a solution but I believe in being proactive
instead of being a negative little whiner.
Here is something I came across @ http://blogs.msdn.com/tdragger/
"A new week and more information is surfacing about installation and
activation problems. Many people are confusing the activation policies for
FSX with those for Windows Vista. To answer some of the questions our
product support team posted a FAQ article to their Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927007/en-us. We also got the first report
on activation statistics. two things struck me about that. First was the
shear number of people--many times the membership of web sites like AvSim,
for example--who have already activated the software, given that the
official street date was only a week ago. Second was the percentage of
failed activations. Yes, it was certainly higher than expected (and more
than we want so we still need to understand the causes) but still, it was a
tiny fraction of the overall number."
Remember, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem,
do something positive and "quit your bellyaching"!

Donno... this time it's different. Avsim forums for the first time ever
split the Flight Simulator forum in half. Now there's an FS9 forum and an
FSX forum, if that tells us anything.
A lot of people don't want to buy Vista now with the "2 activations and buy
a new one policy" so there'll be no help from DX10 for them. It's too bad
DX10 is tied to Vista.
Future hardware might not help FSX. Future hardware looks to be quad core,
not faster... If you buy a quad core what good will it do you if FSX will
still be using just one core?
You are right, there will always be a strong tenancy for people to lean
towards the newest model. I sincerely hope it all works out for this
edition because the franchise might be at stake, but the future of this one
seems fuzzy to me.

I popped an extra 1/2 gig of memory in mine, Quilly and FS9 really zooms.

You are quite the negative ... ... ... person.
It would seem *you* are having problems.

The franchise may be at stake Dally, but if this does become the last
version to be released, imagine how FS9 will run on computers in 5 years
time! I know I'll still be running it!
