Only convention I would probably go to is a Demoscene convention (or
important computer convention, probably along security lines).

I might be dragged to an anime convention, but nothing I aspire to go
to. Just like watching it, that's all.

I can understand that ^_^

I used to go to sell stuff, watch new stuff that had only just come out
and meet a few of the regulars over a few beers.

Now it's full of prima donna types dressing up as characters and
complaining loudly if they don't win the fancy dress competition.
I remember being curled up in a feotal ball with laughter at the
attitude of one who said that he was going to be in character for the
whole of the weekend and if he wasn't allowed to wear his costume
(there were some worries about the safety of it) then he simply wasn't
going to turn up...
