As I understand it, from what Maxis has said, the game hasn't even
gone gold yet, and isn't actually even finalized in development. I
suppose we COULD be talking about a leaked beta, but I don't think so.
I mean the cover art is already translated etc.

Gah - they're going to be lying all over the portals aren't they? Why not
on the grass you idiots? What can possibly be comfortable lying on hard
surfaces?

And see that sim there? He needs killing, he does, for crimes against good
taste.

As for that bed - I wish they'd left it in Sims1. The only person likely to
use that is Mama Hick.

Also, looks like skipping is going to be the new kicky bag.

I do like the look of the ceilings and the park though. Oooh - how did they
get those steps like that - without using the constrainfloorelevation cheat
or maybe the building is just built on a hump of land?

Best wishes

Aye, I know, but I swear I was reading just the other day, IGN or
Gamespy, that AL was getting the finishing touches.

I was wondering about that too, usually a week to a week and a half
before release they announce it has gone gold.

Another thing is that only one video has been released, usually there
are two or three videos by this time. Which is probably why, until a
week ago, I thought the release was a long way off.

Or on a huge foundation...

I like the idea of ceilings, but having them match the floor above just
looks weird. I have on very rare occasions seen ceilings that look like
woodgrain planks, but that is hardly appropriate for most homes and I
have NEVER seen a ceiling with carpet on it, or one with linoleum or
ceramic tile or any of the other floorings! All of my houses will have
to have white carpeting now, I suppose, in order to make the ceilings
look halfway normal!

I never understand the fascination with wanting ceilings anyhow...They
should have just amde them all generic white or offwhite....

Same - I don't imagine they've changed it so you can build foundations on
top of foundations. Shame that, got my hopes up there for a minute.

This was not my impression actually - I thought it was this: if you don't
manually put a ceiling up there then what will show will be the underneath
of the floor above but that you CAN put a different floor tile on upside
down so to speak and so have the colour of ceiling you want. I have to say,
this is something I've been wanting in the game for a long time. It's not
like it's difficult to do either as plenth of other games do it (see this
picture from Neverwinter Nights 2):

http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j49/Maxon/?action=view&current=Dunge...rawlin.

So, I'm going to be pleased with that. Everyone and her dog are excited
about the spiral stairs but, as far as I am concerned you can keep those, I
am pleased about the ceilings. I can get rid of the mod I have in about a
month.

I think it would be easy enough to develop a range of plasters for the
ceiling. All you need is a plain colour. If you wanted to go mad, you
could do plaster patterns.

It's my understanding that the ceiling is simply the same as the floor
above it. Unless you want second stories with plaster floors, I don't
see how that would work. I'll have to make all my houses one story only.

No, I was concerned about that too - I think it was in one of the chats
about being able to paint the ceiling from the underside. Working would be
simple - just one graphic facing one way, and another facing the other.
It's not complex.

I was noticing the ceilings in the pictures in the link above. They
were wood planks and carpeting. I sure hope you are right!

Oh yes, because they are just upside down floors. There's not going to be
any special ceiling paint tool - we'll be using the flooring tool in ceiling
mode.

I remember that from either the chat transcript or some promo stuff they
did, too, and they DID say that we will be able to change the ceilings plus
to turn then on and off. None of my houses have rooms on the top floor that
line up perfectly with the rooms on the ground floor, so if recolouring of
ceilings were not possible, all my houses would have patchwork ceilings.

Cheers!
