| My pet ogre king is wielding a worm tooth. I did in a worm a long
while ago and he must have found the tooth. I have presented a whole
variety of more promising weapons for him to haul off with. He has
walked over them and not picked them up. They can't all be cursed.
Why won't he trade up?

Pets don't actively search for better equipment, they only have their
generic (fairly low) chance of picking up any non-cursed item they
walk over. Maneuvring a pet into a dead end where you've placed its
intended equipment upgrade greatly speeds up the picking-up process -
from about a hundred turns to less than ten.

Maybe the *worm tooth* is cursed?

I don't believe that can happen. A pet wouldn't pick up a cursed worm
tooth, and I don't think anything can lead to an item in a pet's inventory
becoming cursed.

Being hit by a lich will - and that's certainly a possibility.

At one point I thought pets could be trained to pick up cursed items
by tossing food onto the cursed item. I suspect it was a rumor that
turned out to be false but it would be a cruel twist if that were
implemented. >> Stay informed about: pet swings his WORM TOOTH at the dwarf |

They *will* eat a corpse which has/had cursed equipment. Is there a
difference? the pile order doesn't matter - although I've read that one
too.

I don't think monsters cast spells against pets.
