Just curious. I'm writing about it for the AVSIM review, and wondered
what if anything people are using it for.

I fly the Beach Baron 58 with the G1000 in FSX. I like
the size of the displays plus I have modified the G1000
so that I have the default FSX tower radar gauge installed
as an overlay.

I see all the AI aircraft within range as selected on the
G1000.

The G1000 does take a little getting used to with all the
various menu/sub-menu options. I still have to 'poke around"
when trying to select an ILS approach and find the frequency
listings.

I believe Dalli was using the 1000, or at least has looked into its
functionality. I run FSX, what tower radar gauge?

I'm nit sure if the radargauge is in both versions of
FSX or only the Deluxe but it should be in the "Gauges"
folder... radar.cab

It was included to implement the ATC function in FSX but
has features that can be used to display AI aircraft in
a users aircraft.

Search the forums at Avsim...you should find some information
over there. I've added radar displays/overlays to the CRJ-700,
A321, B737-800, Baron 58 and Lear 45. One needs to know a bit
about XML programming to accomplish the modifications to the
aircraft gauges to integrate the radaras an overlay/selectable
"page" but it's fairly straight forward to add it as a pop-up
window such as the GPS, radio stack, etc are in many aircraft
2D panels.

Hi David,
I have been flying the EagleSoft Cirrus SR-22 G2 in FS9 a lot lately. It
uses the Avidyne glass cockpit, which I really like a lot. I think I prefer
the Avidyne cockpit over the Garmin G1000 system. Take care...

I looked at the thread you posted in AvSim, but unfortunately, I'm not
really clear on how to implement this. I don't know enough about XML to
work out the finer details of what you've put in there. I realize
you're not here to teach XML (and that would be a bit beyond the scope
of this newsgroup (or would it?)) but I'd like to add radar to the
KingAir 350. Obviously, no room on the actual panel, but I'd like to
add it the way you added a separate display for the 737. Thanks!

Paul, have you thought about adding some of your modifications to the
AVSIM file library?

I'd love to share the modifications but they involve a good deal
of changing the original M$ XML gauge code.

I'm rather leary of attempting to upload a set of modified
.cab files that contain the mods along with the other, unmodified,
M$ XML files. In some cases I also modified the original
BMP's to add functionality to previously unused buttons or
switches on a default panel or created new switches on a
default panel.

The code snippet I posted over in the AVsim forums was meant
for someone who is fairly well versed in XML and gauge programming.

I've been away in Europe all summer and am still in the
"travel" mode. Perhaps, sometime down the road, I will
put together a "how to" document describing how one might
go about making the mods to their default aircraft but it
would entail a good deal of time and digging back into files
I haven't touched in months.

Hi Vernon,

I had a bit of time on my hands this morning so I created
a radar gauge modification for the default FSX King Air 350.
This mod will only work in that aircraft but by inspecting
the methods used ( see the panel.cfg file ) you should be
able to install the radar display window in other aircraft.

Download this file from one of my web pages, unzip it into
a temporary location, then follow the instructions in the
included "Read_me.txt" file.

Enjoy,
Paul

boB,

See my reply to Vernon in this thread. I created a
simple radar display mod using a pop-up window display
method. The modification folder also contains the
modified FSX radar gauge, in folder form, that could be
used to integrate into other aircraft. The default radar
gauge code needed to be modified to make the display
oriented to the aircraft heading. In it's original
"ATC tower" form it was oriented to true north.

Here is the gauge Paul developed from the ATC panel in FSX. It's quite
nice and if you look close at the pictures you will see a mystery.
