I played this chr as protection on and off and finally got into the
50's. Well I got set up, went to WPL and had a ball aoe tanking
the only time I had fun with him. Now he is 58 and not much use
for this anymore.
What now?
BIG QUESTION...get the last 2 levels or go to outlands?
everyone says oh you can heal in instances now.
to me that is big whoopie (NOT)---worst letdown ever.
I just feel that all this work was a waste, and he is a dead chr.
what do I do now????? >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

Whatever you want to do, its your game, its your character. Stay prot
and tank, switch to holy and heal, go ret and... do whatever it is
that ret pallies do. Keep leveing in Azeroth, or go to Outland. Run
old high level instances or run new instances in Outland. Grind old
world factions or new factions. Start a new character and use your
old character to supply gold to your new one. >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

Not much use for AOE tanking? Try the buzzards or the undead out by

Prot is limited for paladins, atm Warriors and Druids are far better
tanks. Ret is good in PvP however it doesn't play to our strengths as
much as Holy. If you want to be like most of the pally community run
holy, you'll love it if you enjoy both PvE and PvP. If your a PvP
junkie like me I'd go Ret for now since I found it easier to level
58-70 as Ret and you can actually defend yourself against another
person 1v1. Well geared Ret pallies can do good damage and are very
hard to CC. >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

As far as old world content goes, have you cleared out Silithus yet?
The way mobs are set up there, it is AOE heaven and they will be yellow
for you for at least another 3-4 levels. >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

If you think that, you've only met bad paladin tanks. Pallies might be
limited in endgame raiding but in 5-mans and 10-mans they're great; I
frankly prefer them over warriors or druids most of the time. And it's not
only that I've been lucky enough to work with a couple of excellent ones,
as one I came across in an OHB pug the other day also did a great job,
despite when I inspected him half his gear wasn't even tank orientated, but
he held the aggro fine, he didn't die and it was a smooth run, which can't
always be said for pugs in that place

pally tanks are most needed in hyjal. aoe tanks ftw.

I run with a pally tank all the time, so much so that I really dread running
with any other kind of tank. We run almost all regular instances and a few
heroics with AOE tanking / burning. My poor succubus hardly gets out to play
anymore. It's definitely a useful spec in Outland. Pair up with a good AOE
caster (mage, warlock, etc), PUG a decent healer, fill the remaining slot
with whoever is available, and you're set.
If I were you I'd head out to Outland ASAP -- just ignore the Azeroth
content. The gear you'll encounter is much more plentiful and better quality.
The quests are better designed and have reasonable rewards. The scenary is
just plain more interesting than Azeroth. I too faced the decision of whether
to level in Azeroth or Outland, and I'm glad I made up my mind the way I did.
It's far easier to get a party together to run an Outland instance than it is
an Azeroth instance, and there are always parties that are looking for tanks.

I grouped with a prot pally for Arc who had just respecced from holy.
He tanked the whole instance in full kara healing gear. And he did a
good job of it to. >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

Dont agree with you what so ever!! tankadins excel in tanking than
other classes because they can hold aggro (this coming from someone
who has feral druid and warrior) >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |

I did the same thing with a warrior. Raced him to 58, then quit him
because I was bored.
In my case, I then started a rogue, shaman, priest, hunter, druid and
paladin. Got tired of the druid around level 20 and dropped him. Ran
the rest in rotation until they all hit 58 (which is where they are
now).
The rotation idea has the downside that I do each area 5 times in rapid
repeat. For some areas, that gets boring. Most areas allows me to fine
tune each area though, so the last alt through does it quickly.
I start with my hunter, since he is the strongest and easiest to survive
a goof in technique. I finish with my paladin because he is the slowest,
and it is nice to get him through more quickly.
I expect to continue this rotation until they hit 70, then start again
with a set of hoard toons.

I'm just going from my experience as tanking as a 70 prot Pally,
Warrior and Feral Druid. I find my Druid to be the easiest, warrior
to be the most effective and the pally to be the most challenging.
Paladins don't have a lot of offensive threat generation so in order
to tank and hold aggro I have to constantly burn through my mana pool
to hold aggro from over zealous pug players. Mangle produces a lot
more threat on a single target then anything a pally can do, they have
0 snap aggro besides their taunt. In addition they have more stats to
worry about then the other tanks, that is why I put them 3rd. Any
good player could use any of the classes effective in a 5-man, 10-man
setting. All I am saying is that the same player could do a better
job OVERALL with a Druid/Warrior instead of a paladin.
Roll a Prot pally and try to tank the end boss of CoT durn w/ his AoE
dispel and tell me how it goes >> Stay informed about: pally at 58 and just tired...what now? |
