Note that the model is a darker and cooler than RL. I may try to take a
better picture later, but I needed to get pics up due to the deadline.

That said, this model is "better" than my regular stuff. I spent about
50% longer on the build, due to the extra gegaws being added. Painting
was done over 2 long evenings, about 6-8 hours total, which is
considerably longer than what I would normally average.

I went with a basecoat and a lot of shadow washes, blacklining, and
detail touches to define the overall shape. The regular models are much
simpler and flatter.

I did a a lot more detail highlighting, lots of little touches,
following a pseudo NMM highlighting approach. Basically, I adjust the
key visible highlight points to where they would be if they were actual
metal. I also give a feather highlight in shadows to redefine the shape.

I took a super-high contrast approach to the chest eagle, preshading,
and then highlighting the feathers individually.

I'm pretty happy with the model, and I don't intend to do much more with
it. Due to time constraints, I wasn't able to add insignia or script on
the purity seals. Those will wait until I do the rest of the army.

What? You mean you're *NOT* swarthy and hip in real life?

(Sorry, couldn't pass up a straight line like that...)

It's OK. Tho I'd rather that you, Jim, and Donovan actually entered
minis...

Heh. You do that.

Given that the only entrant sucessfully petitioned for more time to do
touch-up work and take better pictures, the entry deadline has been
extended until December 31st, with scoring to be reviewed on Jan 15th.

So you've got a month to show us what you can do. Smile

Sorry, but I'm unlikely to make this one. Sad Not so much from a
lack of interest as a serious lack of time. What painting time I've got
available I'm using on 'standard' stuff, rather than spending 40 to 120
hours on one mini. I've got to much stuff I want painted that still
isn't, and way to much school work to get done in the next 3 to 4
months.

Totally understood. Tho you don't have an existing model you can just
take a picture of?

http://public.fotki.com/JHwang/wip/rgmw/

I took the extra time to "tweak" the model more to my specific strenghts
in hard / metal surfaces:
- redid chest feathers in super-high contrast
- deepened blacklining effects
- brightened and increased contrast on purity seals
- lightly applied shading to armor using NMM (Non-Metallic Metal)
- converted shoulderpad edging from grey to metal
- converted shoulderpad insert from black to black metal
- re-highlighted all metals per MNMM (Metallic NMM)

I also retouched the head to clean it up, but it's still not really
good, more of a warm contrast against the neutral grey and bright metallics.

Comments?

Post subject: Re: Painting Challenge 2006 [Login to view extended thread Info.]

Has tried this with earnings and all works!!! Has come across it at one forum and has decided to try. Wandering as it is usual on different sorts to forums, I find this clause in which it is spoken that it is possible to make thousand dollars for couple of weeks at an investment only 6 $.
Further there was spoken, that it is necessary to translate on 1 WMZ on 6 purses of known payment system WebMoney. After transfer money, exclude from the list the very first number, and in the end of the list write the and throw on 200 various forums. Any dodges ? Well I have reflected and have thought, that I lose nothing except for 6 WMZ both has decided to try + And guess that!!! In four days at me the purse has started to replenish. I was in a shock!!! But at once has thought, that on it all and to end
In the first week I have made 18WMZ, further by the end of the second week already it is more 800 WMZ + to the middle of 3-rd week 6580WMZ +!!! A fourth week and I have already counted 15 000 WMZ and the sum grows very quickly. And this all only for the price in 6 WMZ!!! I was in very bad economic situation before have come across this clause!
I have not believed that it works yet I have not started to receive money + has bought all that is necessary to me + and it very opportunely, will agree?! + and now I shall tell to you as it works also the most important WHY +!
I to you guarantee, that if you in accuracy will observe below the listed instructions YOU WILL start TO RECEIVE much more money than you thought, not applying on it of special efforts. The offer: Прочтите it few times! Follow instructions and MONEY WILL start TO ACT in your purses. Will agree it SIMPLY!!! It LEGALLY. And your contribution makes only 6 WMZ + IMPORTANT: It not a deceit and it is not illegal, thus you risk nothing, but it works!!!
NOTICE: Follow instructions in ACCURACY and 50 000 WMZ and will be yours during from 20 till 60 days more. ALL THIS SUCCESSFULLY WORKS OWING TO HONESTY of PARTICIPANTS!

If you are interested, here the list of purses in system WebMoney on which it is necessary to send on 1 WMZ:------------------------------------

1 z160240779720
2 z174506043950
3 z199234983797
4 z401164413477
5 z921916987898
6 z151434944880

After transfer money, exclude from the list the FIRST number, and in the end of the list ADD the . Now it is necessary to place only the information at forums and to receive profit. Place this clause at not less than 200 forums. REMEMBER, than more you place that above there will be your income and this income will depend directly on you.
