Specifically one particular colour of paint. I know they've been long
out of production, but I'm hoping that someone might have a good jar
of the stuff they might be willing to get rid of; or be able to point
me at an equivalent.
The colour is a bright, metalflake green called Melon. It's about the
brightest, most radioactive green ever made. Citadel doesn't make
anything like it; and I've never found anyone else that did, either.
I'm down to a third of a jar, and I'd really like to find more, if
possible.

Believe it or not, your craft store may have something
similar...they're cheap enough that you could mebbe blend fluorsecent
green w/ metallic green (for like $2 the lot).
Also, a color that kind called "melon" sounds like a car color. I'm
sure that if you could find a similar color in a well-stocked hobby
shop (although you may have to use enamels). >> Stay informed about: [paint] Looking for Armory paints |

I forgot to save the links, but Testors and Tamiya both have online

I really miss the Armory paints, I was a big fan of thier stuff (I used to
swear by the cans of primer and finish, but curse the modern blend). I'm
still depressed by all my armory paints going bad, with one exception.
I recently ran across some interesting sets of paints (in bottles kind of
like the Vallejo ones) at a local craft store. It wasn't in the painting
section. They were all Acrylics, and they were some awsome metalics and
other unusual colours. I don't know if "Jo Anns" is a nationwide chain or
just local, but you might want to look into this. I want to say they were
in the scrapbooking section, but might be wrong.

<smug>
I stil have most of my old can of primer white.
</smug>
My bottle of sunshine yellow (the metalflake yellow similar to the
melon green) went bad, but the others I have, including the
glow-in-the-dark paint, are all still good. Unfortunately, I don't
have that many.

Joann's is a semi-national chain; and there are plenty of them around
here. I will pop in and have a look-see; thanks for the heads up.

I was going to make a hobby to craft conversion table a few years back,
but as I started to explore the range of colors available in the craft
world, I chucked the idea. Hobby paints are just too limited in their
selection when compared with craft paints. >> Stay informed about: [paint] Looking for Armory paints |

No, but I've tried it with other thin-liquid acrylic paints -- which I
made from scratch way back when I was a Fine Art major -- and it
worked quite well. I still have several jars of the stuff in bright,
primary colours stashed in storage with the rest of my old art
supplies.
I think I'll probably just stick with the small 4oz. jars, since
they're inexpensive, the stuff should be used sparingly, and one of
those jars lasts a good long time. Unless you are preternaturally
steady-handed and have a workspace with absolutely no airflow, I
recommend wearing a dustmask and clothes you don't mind getting
stained when working with that stuff.
Hardrock, who doesn't remember if he ever managed to get all the
cadmium yellow powder out of his clothes.

Speaking of which, my mother does ceramic work, and has these odd
stone-texture paints that she uses; that I co-opted for painting
bases. It comes in different colours, is pretty cheap, and gives an
interesting granite or sandstone texture and appearance. I can't
recall the brand, since they're at home and I'm at work; but I'll post
them if anyone is interested. They're what I used to paint the bases
in the pics I posted elsewhere in this thread.

This stuff is part of a much larger line of craft paints and stuff
called Duncan. Any good craft shop should have it. I use the
"Sierra", which looks like any good grey granite, and "Sand", which
looks like a light yellow-tan sandstone. I like them better than the
usual flocking for bases. I usually build up a few layers to give it
a natural weathered rock look. Thinking of glueing on a few bit of
lichen or moss as well. Might even mock up small thornbushes if i
ever get to the point of doing diorama quality stuff.
Hardrock who lacks the talent for that sort of thing.
