Ok, I know this question keeps popping up time and again, but I notice they are
just missing the point to what I'm after.

Basically, I have Windows XP SP2, and The Sims (no expansion packs). The
computer matches the minimum specifications on the back of the box, but Windows
XP is not listed.

Does anyone know if the game will run without any further expansion packs? There
seems to be a mix of opinions about Compatibility mode for Windows 98, logging
in as Administrator and the usual "works fine for me as I have a later expansion
pack".

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you should have any trouble with it. I ran it on my
computer with XP and no EPs.

It only doesn't have XP on it because it was released before XP. Any
incompatibility problems are usually caused by the file system. TS1 was
released at about the same time as win 2k, when NTFS became more widely
used, so it was made compatible on both FAT and NTFS. Older programs have
problems with NTFS because they were made for FAT. XP uses NTFS (or FAT),
and so will Vista.

Cheers for all the help. Hopefully it should work!

The Sims without expansion packs works (for me) on Windows xp with or
without SP1 or SP2 and with FAT or NTFS file-system. The only problem
I've had had to do with the video card drivers, Directx9c and Nvidia
Nforce 3 chipset.
