I would not touch a Dell From Hell even if it were the most expensive,
no-holds-barred given to me for free.

Why not? The battery thing? That is a Sony problem, not just Dell.
There was a recall about a week or two ago for some Apple computers as
well. Same problem.. different machine. So it's not *just* Dell having
that problem.
All in all, Dell isn't so bad a pc actually.

Cheers,
Eddie

Now Packard Bell, THERE'S a machine not to touch! My parents bought one
once. Worked fine, provided you didn't try to add any hardware. Except that
it was a 300MHz system and I saw 166MHz systems with 1/4 the ram running
circles around it! It blew up when a CD burner was plugged in. Why? Packard
Bell decided to put a 90W power supply in. *JUST* enough to cover the
components it came with & nothing more. I can see why they went bust

Convince my son of that. He bought a brand new Dell about this time
last year. except for the case, the entire computer has been replaced,
piece-by-piece, for failure, sparks on the mother board, Hard drive
crashing, power supply catching fire, and a whole host of problems. He
has not added any components to his computer. The only consolation is
that he purchased the three-year warantee. I have no idea how the U.S.
Dells are, but here in Canada, they are pure junk.

Why should the fact that they are made in China make them bad? Most computer parts
are made in China anyway.

That integrated video card will have trouble with Sims 2 though.

Best wishes

That's simply not true, mainboards such as Epox, MSI and many others are made in
China, and they are among the best on the market. Memory such as Kingston which is
also some of the best on the market is made in China. The same for HD, the best
brands are made in China, the same is true for monitors. Almost everything in my PC
is made in China and I'm certainly happy with a machine that always work and never
crashes.

I have, among them JVC and other top brands, I don't think I have one piece of
electrical or electronic equipment in the whole house that's not made in China, and
all of it work perfectly.

I don't know what kind of stuff you have bought, but today the best stuff is made in
China.

There have been reports of problems with the same kind of batteries made by others
than Sony so it's not just Sony.
