how do I optimize idle villager dispatch?

Howdy

The"." key is useful in the early ages, but later on when I have 15-20
idle villagers all over the map, it becomes a nuisance. Is there a way
to automatically cue any newly idle villagers( not new created ones)
to do certain tasks? e-mail please, if you can thank you and
have fun

You didn't say, but I'm assuming you're playing Age of Kings. Idle villagers
are not much of a problem in The Conquerors expansion. If memory serves in
AOK if you task a villager to build a mine he does, then just stands there.
In The Conquerors that same villager will begin digging gold as soon as the
mining camp is built. Same thing with other "gathering" buildings (lumber
camp, mill, etc.).
