newbie: wifi settings for DS done but how to "get to" WFC?

I'm actually writing this for my daughter who's been playing animal crossing
on her DS but wanted to play it online. I just set up my wireless router
and completed the settings. It found it all (after inputting the wep).
Anyway, after that, the instruction wifi instruction book says to go to the
wfc menu and select the option for playing over the internet. However, the
only menu I see of the game menu is one that says "wifi settings" which is
the one that we just did to set up the wifi settings.

Bottom line: Now that I've set up the wifi how do I actually start playing
WFC.

Also, anyone care to explain "town gate"

I'm actually using cookie here to mean "extra". Nintendo on a few
occasions has sent in game mail with in game presents to people who have
connected to the WiFi servers in certain time parameters.

BTW, I just started my wifi. After that, the rest of
