hi all,
in quake4 , i'm just wondering if there is smart way to *keep* my walk/run
speed figures once i configure them in the console to my liking?
in doom 3 i used to have to input them manually at the re-start of every
level, but one day they magically seemed to be part of the start up config
and from that time on, just *happened* all by themselves at every re-start.
or was it just some good smoke?..
seriously tho', any clues as to how to either do that, or how it might have
happened by chance?
cheers and tia. >> Stay informed about: newbie Quake 4 question re: walk/run speed |

if you can enter the commands and paramaters from the console, then you can
also put them in an 'autoexec.cfg' and put that in the \Quake4\q4base\
folder and it will run every time you start the game. You can also re-run
that .cfg by dropping the console and type: exec autoexec

Well, Quake4 is a New game, it may not look for any file other than
Quake4config.cfg which it may or may not overwrite each time it runs or
exits, whichever the dev chose. Mmm, you could put it in the command line
and it would exec on startup: add -exec autoexec.cfg to the cmd line.

Interesting. I'll have to strace the process on Linux to see what files it
looks at on startup.
What commands do you use to set the walk/run speed? >> Stay informed about: newbie Quake 4 question re: walk/run speed |

" pm_walkspeed 300 "( for fast speed)
I also had to add a line to invert the walk/run config : " in_alwaysRun 0"

I was also having the following problems until I came up with a minor system trick.
Here it goes:
go to your quake 4 folder
make a random name .cfg file > example: loop1.cfg
inside loop1.cfg type in:
======================================
pm_walkspeed 300
or
pm_runspeed 600 (depending on which bind you are tweeking)
wait 35 (this will set the delay of when to exec the next .cfg, I believe this is in milliseconds)
exec loop2.cfg (execs the next .cfg file)
=======================================
save loop1.cfg
in your quake 4 folder again-
create "loop2.cfg"
copy everything from "loop1.cfg"
within loop2.cfg-
paste loop1.cfg
change "exec loop2.cfg" to "exec loop1.cfg"
save "loop2.cfg"
.
To start the speed trick-
Start game
Enter console (ctrl+alt+~)
Type in "exec loop1.cfg" and it will begin. Tweek the run/walk speeds by number in the .cfg files
"0" no speed
"900" street fighter 2 hyper
Great for servers since your clients don't have to download a thing.
Thats all to it!
The only thing is I don't know how to make the exec loops stop. I have to crtl+alt +delete just to get out of the program. Unless someone can add on a command on how to stop the damn loop lol! >> Stay informed about: newbie Quake 4 question re: walk/run speed |
