I appreciate all the help, and if I'm getting on you guys' nerves, let me

How do you land guys on another continent? I've seen opponents do it, but I
have no idea how to do that...
Thanks again! >> Stay informed about: Yet Another n00b Question... |

Build docks then a navy & then transport ships.
(navy is essential to protect the transports)
Load your troops / workers into the transports.
Escort loaded transports with the navy to another continent
Unload transports.
Notes
1) In earlier years transports are Galleys & Galleons which perhaps can't
cross oceans.
2) Later years you can build transports which can cross oceans.
2) Research Astronomy to allow crossing oceans.
HTH but my Civ 3 is a bit rusty.
Check Civilopedia for exact detail. >> Stay informed about: Yet Another n00b Question... |

In Civ III, build a fleet of at least three galleys with a settler and a
warrior/archer in each. One of them should be able to make it to another
continent, though there is a hgh risk for each galley to sink each time they
end on an ocean tile. Once you have built galleons, you don't have to worry
about that; they cross oceans without any problem.
In Civ IV, galleys can't cross oceans at all; you'll have tow ait until
yuo can build galleons.
Come to think of it, there should be a (rather smaller) risk for a galleon
to sink if it ends a turn on an ocean tile. Shipwrecks were very common
until fairly recently in history.

Invent Map Making, that'll allow you to build Galleys.
You can load 2 units into them, but they have a 50% of sinking each turn
if you move them away from coastal waters.
When you invent Astronomy the random sinkings will stop in Sea squares,
and once you invent Navigation or Magnetism, they'll stop sinking in
Ocean squares.
All you have to worry about then is enemy vessels...

Also, if you build the Lighthouse wonder your galleys can safely sail in Sea
squares - and i think that Magellan's voyage will have the same effect (but
at that point you should be able to build better ships).
Moreover you should know that:
To load units on a ship in port (i.e. in a city) you use the "L" comand (or
a specific icon) - in that case, your units do not spend movement points
(they can unload / move in the same turn); you can also load them from any
coast square - just walk the unit upon the ship on a adjacent coastal
square, as if it was another kind of terrain. However, the unit will spend
all its (remaining) movement points for that turn.
To unload units, you can enter with your ship in a friendly port (a city
you, or one of your allies, own) - in this case your units will
automatically unload and be ready to move normally. Or you can unload them
on any coastal square (there are at least 2 ways to do so - if you simply
try to enter a land square with a loaded ship, you'll get a dialog box that
wil ask you if you want to unload units on that land square; or you can
directly activate the units you want to unload, if the ship is near land).
in this case, the unit will use its movement point(s) to disembark - the
normal movement cost for the given terrain. For instance, knights
disembarking on a plain will be able to move or attack in the same turn (but
not if they land on a mountain or hill square); foot soldiers will have to
wait for the next turn.
You can also transfer units from ship to ship,to speed transport, but that's
a bit tricky, and I'll let you work it out for yourself...

This is a horrible problem. There are "worker" units, and inside the
city screen you can set population to "work" the land. The same term
should never have been used in both contexts.
You mine a square with gold the same way you mine any other square.
You use it the same way you use a hill that is mined.

Well, I got the game at Walmart and it didn't come with the manual. I've
checked out the Civilpedia, as well as faqs and walkthroughs on Gamefaqs,

The usual way: if you build a road ("R" command) it will increase commerce
yield (which in turn can be used for research, luxury and money); and if you
mine it ("M") it will increase shield production. If you have already
improved the square, building a railroad (when you'll have the technology)
will give a further increase. Remember, however, that this only applies to
square within the radius of one of your cities (it is not a tradable
resource)
A pity you didn't get the manual, by the way - Civ games usually came with
nice and useful manuals, and addicts like me actually like to pore them...
: -) You might be able to find it in some downloadable format, but I do not
know for sure.
