I'm getting the hang of the game now, but when I attempt to build Leonardo's
workshop, the building will begin, but then after awhile, I'll get a message
saying that since the city can no longer work on the workshop, do I want to
switch to building a Colloseum. What is happening that the city can't
continue construction of the workshop?
Thanks again, in advance! >> Stay informed about: Another n00b question... |

Another civilization beat you to it. If you look closely, it should tell
you that another civ has finished building whatever. Since there can only
be one, after it is built, your city has to build something else.

The "Wonders of the World" are all single items. They give some sort of
special ability to the civ that builds them, so there is only one each.

However, in Civ IV there are Minor Wonders which every civilization can
build.

There is a silver lining when this happens, though. You get money

No, that's a new idea. In my opinion, it is a good one. You generally don't
have to be so hystercially focused on the "Great Wonders".

If so, my Civ 3 disk must actually be a mislabeled Civ 4 disk. I don't

Exactly: Civ 4's Minor Wonders are the same idea as Civ 3's Small
Wonders, just with a new name. At least, that seems to be the case from
what has been said about them on this thread. >> Stay informed about: Another n00b question... |

Therefore, you should generally try to switch over to something a
little more expensive than a colloseum, such as a different Wonder of
the world. In fact, many people deliberately plan on this: starting
work on a Wonder that is currently available, with the intent of
switching over to a different Wonder as soon as it becomes available. >> Stay informed about: Another n00b question... |

Civ3 has two categories of Wonders :
Great - which can only be built once
Small - which can be built once by every civilization
