Just watched'em for the first time this week. Dagnabbit, I like 'em.
D&D 2 depict a great method for bringing the party together.

I here there going to do a 3rd one. I hope they do. Damn the critics.
These films are campy and have a good heart.

Seems they take place in Greyhawk. Wonder why no one thought to do a
screenplay using more of the campaign history. The war with Iuz would
have been cool. I always liked the Vesve Forest.

What module or story arc do you think would have made a good movie from
Greyhawk?

The second movie was first shown on the Sci-Fi channel. Later it came
out on dvd.

I recently saw the 2nd movie and saw the 1st when it came out. While I
agree with you somewhat on the second movie, I just can't go along on the
1st.

In the case of the first movie, I was severely disappointed and had I met
the script writer I would have slapped him. I thought the dialogue was
worse than campy, it was redundant and still not managing to get anywhere.
Neither Halle's presence nor the antics of Wayons did anything to improve
this movie.

In the second movie, they skipped the big name actors and this time sunk
some of that hefty cash into some impressive special effects. The
scriptwriters appeared to have actually read past the player races and
classes in the D&D books (unlike the 1st) with numerous references to
assorted classic magic items, spell components, and a few classic dungeons
as well. The overall story wasn't TOO bad. The acting ... well, maybe not
that great, but neither was the first with the big acting budget. I'd put
the acting on par with Beastmaster or Conan.

But, of course, we didn't choose to watch these films expecting an Academy
Award performance. We watched them because we're D&D addicts.

The 1st film was truly one of the worst things I have ever sat thru
(apart from "Out of Africa") but the 2nd was quite a jolly affair

My kids (12, 10 & 5) like the 2nd movie as well - mainly because of the
bit where the cleric got eaten by the dragon

btw I watched "Narnia" over the weekend, and apart from the truly awful
Aslan as Jesus stuff (and the po-faced voice acting by liam neilson) I
thought it was OK (especially the cockney Beaver)

All I can remember is one character screaming "SNAAAAAAILS!!" after
that particular character got thrown off a castle wall or somesuch.

That, and the fact that in one of the scenes, you can actually see
that the roof for a building is just a cone coloured brownish.

I'm hoping the second one's better, even though I enjoyed the first
one.

I dig English chicks too, but aren't the actresses in Narnia a bit
young?

I should have thought about US-UK slang translation problems as I
typed. Obviously the DC was to high for me....

The reviews I've read have been mixed, which is to say, they've been
better than those for the first flick.

I still say Hawk the Slayer is the quintessential D&D movie. If you
were to film a movie based *precisely* on what happens and what is said
in-character during an average session with average gamers, that's the
film you'd get.

On the first movie....I loved the movie, with the -only- exception of
that wayens twit that played Snails. I actually jumped up and cheered
and woot'd just like my favorite team scored a game winning goal, when
snails got killed.

I did think that some of the acting was cheesy, but I also looked at
the budget and realized that they weren't going to get big names for
the movie.

The second movie really rocked! Much better plot and script and Ellie
Chidzey is an absolute beauty!!

I hope there is a third one as well. With a better budget and maybe
some Faerun based genre'.

I never played in any campaigns from there, nor have I really read any
of the books.

Are you kidding? The first one was WAY better than "Fellowship of the
Ring"!

You've never had to suffer through "Manos, Hands of Fate", I take it.

And, actually, it was the better of the two. I enjoyed both, but the first
had
the feel of the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. The second had more of
a mature feel to it.
