Beginning with the October sales data, which is due later this month,
NPD is going to cut way back on what they share on a monthly basis
with their non-paying customers, i.e. media.
What does this mean?
For starters, no more hardware sales data. (Can you taste the bitter
tears streaming from various forums and message boards?) Sony,
Microsoft and Nintendo will of course be free to release their own
sales info-and presumably leak that of their competitors, if it'll
make them look good-but we will no longer receive that data from NPD.
Software sales figures will only be given for the Top Five SKUs, not
the Top Ten as we normally receive. We'll eventually receive hardware
numbers and Top Ten software numbers, but only on a quarterly and
annual basis. There are signs that this may only be a temporary
pullback, but for now, this is were things stand.

Ah, there's nothing like watching a company with a near monopoly cutting its
own throat. All this will do is give budding sites like Vgchartz.com more
exposure, and ultimately, more credibility as their numbers are referenced
more and more in the media and various online sources. >> Stay informed about: No more monthly hardware NPD data for the public |

Why do You capitalize Words that shouldn't be Capitalized? Just Curious.
To answer your question, the fact is that Vgchartz uses exactly the same
method to get their data as NPD. They don't have as much data to work with,
and don't claim to, although their sources have certainly increased over
time. As far as being referenced in articles, there is no reason for
reporters not to reference it or other sites if NPD numbers are no longer
available. They're already referenced quite a bit in gaming website
articles and blogs, and it won't be long before mainstream media follows
once NPD data is no longer available. That visibility will probably lead to
better sources, and will only hurt NPD and its subscription model, because
why pay (or pay so much) for something you can get for free?
As far as it being some kid who runs it, who cares? Lots of very young
people have started up websites or technology companies that ended up become
big. Heck, Bill Gates was only 21 when he and his partners started
Microsoft. Vgchartz isn't going to be the next microsoft or Google, but
don't minimize what it could come simply because it started out small. >> Stay informed about: No more monthly hardware NPD data for the public |

No, VGChartz does nothing like what NPD does. NPD acually does lots of real
world work to get it's real numbers, which is why company's pay a lot of
money for it. VGCharts at the most, makes a educated guess, doesn't matter
if it's close or not, as it's just a guess, reading info posted on other
sights that for example that ports NPD numbers. If anything VGCharts
guessing gets much worse without getting the real NPD data that been posted.

It's one thing to write your software and sell it to others. It's completly
differnt just throwing up whatever numbers you want and get suckers to
believe they are real. Do you really believe everything you read??? I
can't believe your even remotly compairing VGChartz to MS and Google,
HAHAHA, That's so funny. Hell maybe I just just thow something up there
on the web and make up BS and have you suckers believe that also.
Anything posted there is to be taken with a grain of salt at most. Without
the NPD data it's getting from other places posted, I wouldn't even belive
that much. >> Stay informed about: No more monthly hardware NPD data for the public |

NPD is just making an "educated guess" as well. If you believe otherwise
you don't know much about what they do. Do you realize that NPD has no
sales data for the largest retailer in the world?
As I said, NPD has more data to work with and sites like Vgchartz do not
claim otherwise, but they are essentially doing the same thing.

Read for content, please. I did not compare Vgchartz to MS and Google, I
merely used them as examples to point out that very young people have
started up websites or technology companies that ended up becoming big.
That's not my opinion. That's a fact.

Hey, if you think people would bother to go to your site, give it a go,
let's see what you can do. By the way, I would recommend that you save a
grain or two of salt for the NPD numbers, too. You'll need it. >> Stay informed about: No more monthly hardware NPD data for the public |
