Idea's for model - Hi all, I'm painting a Grail Knight and would like some input. First, I don't game and I'm not worried about the model looking uniform as if it were in a unit. Right now, I have the horse landing on it's front feet with the rear legs extended in hopes..

Magnetic paint um..[model] or [paint] - I picked up a can of Krylong magnetic paint, not actually magnetic, but is the kind of paint that pagnets can stick to. I'm thinking of sticking neodynium magnets on my bases, and spraying this stuff on movement trays. Also, I think it'd be good to use it

[model]Rare Earth Magnet - I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good site for these and recommend a size to use on 28mm sized models. the 40K miniature range. Thanks in advance for any help.

[model] [paint] Hobby Progress? - July was another slow month. I spent a couple days my storage cases, so more minis cased and fewer loose. My main current project is to finish my Assault Marines. From a base of 15 built and painted, I've finished building 6,..

[Model] Favorite Metallic Paints? - So over the last year or so I've been gradually replacing my old paints with Vallejo paints, which I love, but I've been hanging onto and nursing along my old pots of GW metallic because I still like them. But I just can't stand the terrible GW paint.

For skryre I have quite a few ratties with empire militia and
necromunda weapons (mostly orlock plastics).
I either just use the human arms directly, then GS them to look more
ratty, or chop at hand or weapon whatever works best.

Sorry, not a great pic
http://bullgod.org/moodgod/war/images/sk_sling.jpg

plus other real skryre models should fit quite nice. ratling gun,
warlock engineers, jezzails etc

Have those to create a pirate band, but they're still humans. I can get
armed humans from plenty of places. I even bought some G/M muties(?) to
fill that roll.

OK so you get a box of plastic skaven. Do you do weapon or arm swaps, and
what with?

Regiment box comes with Spear arms and Knives... you could always cut
off the knife blades and put pistols on the hands. The torsos have flat
lands at the shoulders and the Cadian arms look about the right scale
there too, so you could always use IG rifle arms and they would be about
the right scale for the rat bodies.

Cadian or Catachan?

As Estarriol said, the Kroot are your best "One Box" solution, but if
you can access (via your spares box, a friends spares box, etc.,) some
Catachan arms and weapons (and other bits) consider using Beastmen.
The bestial heads fit the Ungor bodies as well as the Gors, so all 20
can be converted as a coherent group. If you want a pistol and blade
weapon fit, the Gor arms mostly have wristbands which means single
handed weapons from any source can be easily fitted. As a bonus,
three of the four Ungor heads on each frame fit comfortably on human
bodies to give mutant/demonic types. The fourth has a prominent nose-
ring which means you can only really use one of them, while the others
can be easily "individualised" with spare horns, etc., giving you the
potential to convert about a dozen humanoid types. They would go well
with Tau figures, but Chaos Marauders (again with Catachan weapons) or
Empire Militia (with Cadian weapons) are other possibilities, as are
the Catachans themselves - anything has to be better than the heads
they come with; I've considered using spare Goblin heads with both
these and the Chaos Marauders. Somewhat off the point, I've used
Chaos Marauder legs with a mix of Chaos Marauder and Catachan torsos,
and Catachan weapons as the basis for Feral/Renegade Imperial Guard,
utilising "hairy" heads from various sources including the "Knights of
the White Wolf" frame from the "Empire Knights" box (also previously
in the Mordheim Human Mercenaries box). I've suppressed any obvious
Chaos insignia so they can utilised in a variety of forces - these
Zardozians were a conversion project with no real home when I started
them, their name came later with the recall of Sean Connery romping
around in a loincloth and big boots, brandishing a Webley...
Returning to the original idea, tooled up Beastmen would go well with
your Cattle Rustling scenario, only they're not rustling the cattle,
they're liberating their enslaved bovine Kinedred...

Cheers,

Moramarth

Cadian. Catachan would work too but I think muscular arms on the rats
would look silly. The Cadian arms at least have sleeves.

Yeah, I was thinking about it later and thought they'd look kind of
weird. Then again, the Skaven torsos are already strangely large for
their lower bodies.

not sure why that'd be a problem, given that pretty much everything in the
latest skaven range already looks ridiculous ...

The plastic Plague Monks aren't that bad. Other than that, a lot of
it's just too much caricature.
