I have a year-old Paladin on Llane. Months ago I began an Undead
Priest, also on Llane, but only in the past few days have I done
anything with her; she is now up to level 13.
Llane a year ago was a medium (maybe even low)-population server that
soon became a high-population server. I presume that the game nowadays
guides new players to newer, lower-population servers. Even on a
Saturday, Tirisfal Glades seems much less crowded (both in terms of
characters and chatter) than I remember Elwynn Forest, Westfall,
Redridge Mountains, and Darkshire--zones I rarely had trouble finding
fellow players for pickup groups and such--to be. Undercity is almost
deserted compared to Stormwind, let alone Ironforge.
I know that the Alliance outnumbers the Horde on most servers,
regardless of age, and perhaps what I am (not) seeing is the result,
but I wonder whether I should cut my losses and start anew on a new
server with many other youngsters around to group with. Since, as I
mentioned, this is my first Horde character, I have no particular tie
to Llane other than to preserve the 13 levels I've accumulated so far
(which I know I can redo relatively quickly).
1) Am I worrying for nothing?
2) If not, how do I find out how old a server is?

fwiw, I am a programmer by profession."

If you roll on a new server you have the advantage of everyone being
new. No one has BWL gear, no one is farming MC every week. My hordie is
on a server that's 2 months old and noob zones are packed. It's great,
it's easy to find groups, the groups are good(lvl 60 rerolls mostly)
and you dont feel all alone while the entire game is geared at lvl 60's
on an older server. >> Stay informed about: Is it a mistake to grow a young character on an old server? |

Well I've started a fresh on high pop servers and never felt that or
had problems grouping. They are always chars of ever level. My
unguilded banker alts are always getting invites.
Having said though I didn't know people on them and I wouldn't
recommend you make on a high pop server. The possible queue times alone
are reasons not to make there. >> Stay informed about: Is it a mistake to grow a young character on an old server? |
