Guidebook actually has a fair amount of your answers, though they can
be hard to find (since there's so much wealth of information). In any
case it's best not to spoil yourself too much - part of the fun of the
game is exploration.

You can tame them with rat corpses. They often won't accept them
though. Music is far more reliable for characters that have it, and
the calm monster spell can get them off your back for a while too. I
generally try to out-run them and lock them in a room.

The "\" key should do the trick. Tell you how many corruptions you
have. when the screen fills up you'll be near dead. A scroll of dark
predictions will also tell you what percentage of corruption you have.

For an archer I'd say nah. You need the carrying capacity for the
arrows, which can cause a lot more damage.

Slaying ammo causes 3 times damage. Critical can further double that,
and blessed weapons (including arrows) will do 50% more damage against
demons and undead.
Wishing for artifacts won't work. Check out the guidebook section on
wishing for some good advice on what to spend wishes on.

The spells monsters have are unfortunately unique to them. The only
targetted spell you can get like that is Improved Fireball, which
causes a fireball all round thetarget (can hurt you too).

Poison resistance from spider corpses, which are fairly abundant.
Sickness you can't get resistance too, but potions of healings will
often cure it. Curaria mancox herbs will do the same. Mental
stability items will aid a little against confusion, but often aren't
fully reliable - very high willpower helps tremendously. Many
artifacts give added resistances against statuses. You can see the
details of the artifacts in the guidebook, or by using a greater
identify scroll on them in game (though this doesn't always show all
of their statuses).

Bridge building is quite useless. It should be noted that you can get
across rivers by freezing the water with ice spells/wands. You can't
go across them if you're holding more than 2000s of stuff though
(otherwise the ice will break - very dangerous when crossing the
pirahna lake).

Yep, they increase hunger - normally half a point each (so only every
second artifact increases your hunger rate). Crowned champions suffer
from this less. Only artifacts equipped count - doesn't matter how
much you carry (unless they weigh a lot of course).

Literacy counts for a successful read of the book, and learning, level
and class all effect your success of actualy learning the spell. I
tihnk concentration might affect things too.

Sacrifice enough to get you extremely close and pray to your god.
Must be of extreme alignment and must not have anything that dooms or
curses you. You will get and artifact, become permanently blessed and
get immunity to one element you aren't already immune to (which is why
many wear the ancient mummy wrapping whilst being crowned so they get
something better than cold immunity). Be careful afterwards not to
change alignment completely (L+ to L- is okay, but not to NL).
Hope this helps, and best of luck with your archer.
