The other night I flew up to Blade's Edge to do the SSO daily there.
I picked a spot that seemed to have no other players in the area. I
had gotten lucky on a previous day and got 2 phasing devices, so I was
able to instantly phase.

I phase and get attacked instantly by a worm. No big deal. I see a
NE rogue also fighting a worm, but he seems to be heading a different
direction than I was planning to go.

So I pull the next worm from next to a mana cell. While I am fighting
the worm, the NE unstealths and takes the cell, then stealths again.
Next pull, same thing. I'm not itching for a PvP fight, and I know as
soon as he has 10, he's going to stab me in the back, so I' not going
to help him. Mounted and flew to another spot.

Being already phased I was able to pick a spot free of other phased
players. I land, kill a few mobs, grab a few cells, when an orc
hunter comes in and starts doing the exact same thing the NE did. I
stopped, mounted, flew up just a little bit, waited for him to pull a
worm, then landed and did what he did to me. After that he left the
area, leaving me to gather cells in peace.

The quest really isn't that hard, kill the worms (which have a high
drop rate for motes of mana), grab the cells. No need to ninja
someone else's work.

The sad truth though is that during peak hours, it's borderline
impossible to pull a mob, kill it, and then have the cell still there
to grab (I've had times where at least 6-7 people would have come
across it in that time, almost all of which will grab it). A lot of
people will just resort to grabbing them when they can then, just so
they can get their 10 and get out asap.

Me, what I've done is I just do the quest on my priest. I run up to a
cell, pop a fear, and then when the mob is running around I'll loot
the cell, then kill it AFTERWARDS. Usually I can finish it up in ~10
minutes.

I take a different tack. Lots of times, people are more timid than
they seem, and they're really just ninjaing you because they can
justify it to themselves. When I go for a cell on my pally, I stand
right on top of it, and fight the worm. If someone wants to ninja it,
they literally have to work around my body, and they no longer have
the excuse to make to themselves that "he was busy and I didn't know
if he was going to go for that cell anyway." It works remarkably well.

If I see a player who's obviously clearing their way to a mana cell, I
leave them alone, and go find another cell. Why, then, does it still
surprise me that when I'm clearing my way to a mana cell, the person I
left alone will come up and take the cell while I'm still fighting?

Sometimes a ninja may not have been intentional. Last night my Blood
Elf Priest was doing the Pirate quests in Lost Rigger Cove. Just as
she was leaving, I noticed a Solid Chest. Luckily for me it was in a
spot where there are normally two linked mobs, but there was only one.
Sure, there was a corpse on the ground, but I didn't think twice about
it. I killed the mob, looked around, saw no one, and looted the chest.
A few seconds later a Night Elf Warrior came in and looted the the
corpse on the ground. I then surmised that she had probably been
fighting her way to the Chest, taken on too many mobs, went and healed
up, then came back to find that someone had taken the Chest. I felt
awful.

I have horrible luck in picking PvP targets. I'll see an enemy
player, I'll look around, make sure he doesn't have a group of friends
with him, decide to go for it, swoop in, cast a DoT or 2, then get
massacred by a group of alliance players who seemed to conveniently
show up at just the right time. I just have bad luck I guess.

It is a moral imperative to kill people who steal the cells from the ones
clearing the worms. This is a HUGE penalty - they have to go grind for
another phase device. In my experience, the ones who do this are easy
targets anyway, so just blow them away until they get the hint. *

I have noticed recently that I seem to be getting DCed a lot more than
ever.

At any rate, I am Horde and the Warrior was Alliance - and that's what
made it worse. There was no way I could explain myself or convey my
apologies. I would have even traded the stuff from the chest (was a
Star Ruby and some food).

Of course, this is assuming my analysis of the situation was correct,
but I tend to assume it was. My Shadow Priest doesn't even have great
gear, and killing things is super-easy. I've played characters that
have it hard against more than one mob, know how frustrating it is to
see what you want, like a Chest or a vein, but knowing that you simply
can't kill any faster. I understand that until level 70 with nice
gear, Warriors are very much like that.

This suprises me that a hunter would have to ninja (well I know they don't
HAVE TO, it was probably a kid, and as there have been serveral posts that
already pointed out that kids are, by nature, rude and self-centered... just
because they're kids). Playing a hunter myself, I always send my pet in,
send him a mend, and loot the cell while my pet is fighting the worm. I
should also add that, as a hunter this quest is probably easier for us than
any other class because of our Aspect of the Wild, which increases our
Nature resist, which about cuts the aoe attack damage in half. It's quite
common for my Mend to keep my pet at close to 100% health while I'm looting.
By the time I have the cell, my pet has about 4.5k threat on the worm and I
can go all-out and take the worm out in a couple seconds without having to
kite the last 25% of his health away. Rinse, repeat, ???, Profit!

On my Shadow priest I just run in, let the worm bite me once, hit
Psychic Scream and then while the worm is running around dot him with
SWP and grab the cell...

Not long ago I was in Nagrand killing Clefthoof. Not far away I

Don't. Chest loot is largely worthless, other than to sell for a few
silver. Now if a blue or some such had popped out of it, then you
could proceed to feel guilty. Also, I don't know how many times I've
fought to get to some chest to loot it, only to find that there's just
a hunk of cheese or some springwater left in it, that some ****tard
didn't bother to remove when they high-graded the rest of the contents
who knows how long previously.

Welcome to ninja area. Sad Good manners is apparently in no need in that
area. I have started ninjaing myself after being ninjaed dozens of times.
I no more really dont care about it. Sorry.
