welp, i turned on EQ with all the settings on - ALL of them - and all on
maximum ... and wow, what a beautiful game!!!

my old box:
pIII 733 mhz
512 sdram
geforce 3

new box:
dual core 2.2ghz
2gb ddr 500
radeon 1900xt

and so, being the addict i am with 4 accounts, i have to ask: HOW do i
multibox?

-i got windows application compatability toolkit and fixed eq ... but i
wasn't able to alt-tab ...
-i can run eq in windowed mode at my screen's resolution, then minimize it
and start the patcher again to load another instane ... when i did that, i
couldn't use the mouse in the 2nd instance

....i think i'd be happy just having mouse and alt-tab, and if i can run 3 or
4 accounts at once, i'd be alright turning off all the settings (after 5
years, ya get used to it ...)

so is there a walkthrough for this? is this against sony's policy? am i
allowed to ask people in-game about all this? and what else do i need to
know?

thank you again!

Aye, I'm actually fairly impressed that they keep revamping zones, though I
have no idea of their reasoning for what zone to do when. Looks good
though.

Ahh, the multi-box. Well, I can tell you that I can run two instances of EQ
on my machine and if they are both in windowed mode, I have no problems
whatsoever ALT+TAB'ing. Well, occasionally EQ has a problem with my ATI
card and can't seem to remember my gamma settings between instances, but
aside from that it works very well. What I've done is just replicated my
entire EQ directory and set my second account up to run from the second
directory, also setting all graphics features to the bare minimum in the
interests of saving system resources. Also, the two instances are set to
overlap completely so that only one instance is drawn at a time.

Other people might mention using EQWindows or WinEQ or the like for all
your ALT+TAB'ing needs, and that might work fine (or even turn out to be
necessary) for you as well. As a matter of fact, I can remember hearing of
someone running 4 instances of EQ on one machine - each set to 800x600 on a
1600x1200 desktop so that all were completely visible at the same time. It
was certainly not with all the new models turned on. As a matter of fact, I
think it required all graphics be set to minimum.

I am one of those 4boxers.. playing 4 accounts on 1 pc, 800*600 on a
1600*1200 desktop. all visible and about half the new models on (for
the chars i play) and sound on 1 session. graphics are not set to
minimum, but in newer zones i do have to tone down on graphics.
works fairly good, have a p4 2400 with 2gb ram and ati 9700 (needs
upgrade)
yes all accounts need their own directory if you have any questions..

Hmm. I'll bet it's the 2GB RAM that makes it work. I've been looking for an
excuse to upgrade...

Of course you realize that now, when my wife kills me for splurging on 2GB
RAM *and* picking up two more EQ subscriptions, it will be all your fault.

One question. Can you mouse across screens with that setup or is ALT+TAB
necessary?

If you run WinEQ, only one folder is necessary. It has support for
handling multiple "eqclient.ini" files, so you can run instances with
different settings.
I recommend it, the basic version has all the features you need to
multibox (configurable keys to switch windows, quicker and easier than
alt-tabbing).

Hmm ... I had to dual box on a system where I had no 2nd copy of my eq-
folder. All worked fine for me when I started Everquest just a second
time.

And I dual box my EQ for some longer time (normaly with 2 different eq
folders. All without any additional Software. Alt Tab, sound, graphics,
.... All works fine for me.

But my settings are all set to minimum. So no good textures or good
models. Only my own toons have better models so I can see the horse when I
am on it. (First I used WinEQ, but that is no longer needed. But patch is
quite old. Over a year in the past I think!)
