A necro's job... - Silly me, I thought a necro's job (one of them anyways) was to provide much needed mana to the casters of the group. After once again grouping with a necro last night who does not do this (When I asked him if he could give me some mana he said

Inkie Necro - Still tinkering around with for the servers, I think next I'll try a Dark Elf I know, I know, its been done. But has been done. I haven't played a DE past 5th level or so, though, and I stopped playing..

necro dot's and fear - I recall hearing that if a mob is feared, dot's have a lesser effect. I'm wondering if A) this is true and B) if it effects regular damage or just crit damage? I can aggro kite a mob all day long but much prefer to then just go..

Charming Mage - Finally got ahold of some 65 spells; Sun Vortex, Call of the Archmage, and Rathe's Son. Rathe's Son seemed to be weaker than my good old Ward of Xenogy, I suppose he has more HP, but he got chewed up, % wise, just as fast as the Ward, and Planar..

What is the difference in playing styles between a necro and a mage.
They look a lot like clones.

I don't understand that at all... The mage fights by using the
pet to tank (best pet tank in the game) and assisting with a set of nukes
second only to a full blown wizard. The necro fights by applying 10 dots
and using the pet as dot #11, or sometimes by "tap tanking" which is
applying 10 dots, using the pet as dot #11, and healing yourself with
life taps while the mobs summons you...

I thought the necro applied 14 dots, then FD'd and waited to loot.

The mage sent in tank, nuked till he got aggro, then figured he'd
better run only to get stunned into jelly.

But maybe my view is jaded.

Mages - high pet dps, medium nuke dps, summoned items, some small utility,
good pet tanking abilities, can't kite. Mix of fortunes soloing.

Necromancers - low/medium pet dps, low nuke dps, massive DoT dps, good
utility (rezzes, group heals, snare, fd, invuln spells), excellent soloing
class, undead slow/mezz/charm, level all mob mezz, superb kiting class,
useful pulling class.

Yes they both get a pet - but there the comparisons end.

Necro is more of master of the dead. They are better suited to undead
and can also pull with FD. Mage can.t

Mage OTOH has wide variety of pets (4 elemental) and each one is
different. Mage is more of a general dps vs living than vs undead.

Unless they made some major changes in level 71-75, the difference
between living and dead targets is about as important to the necro as
the difference in regular and summoned targets is for the mage. Necro
is indead general DPS for nearly any target, regardless of whether it
is undead.

There are cases where dealing with the undead is advantageous but it
just doesn't matter most of the time.

Upgrades to undead slows and mezzes, makes a necro an even better
chanter in camps in places like direwind.
