What is up with this-- I just got another game card after not playing
for 6 months, and the realms (Suramar, Malorne) my characters are in
seem hauntingly low in player population. Where are the players??? Is
it just the time of day? When do people play WoW? Is it the season,
should I wait for Sept/Oct? I remember playing last March and there
all sorts of players in the game to join up with, now I barely even run
into other players. I am level 22, playing in Wetlands, Stormwind,
Darkwood, etc. Or are people just losing interest in World of
Warcraft??? >> Stay informed about: low player population in game?!? |

Quite a few people in the game are losing interest I believe. If you can't
get into a guild that's running high end instances and pushing it's way
through "new" content then the appeal of running the same places over and
over and over, one year on, is somewhat limited even with different
characters. >> Stay informed about: low player population in game?!? |

The server I play on has a steadily increasing population. I now get queued
in prime time.
The server I came from had long queues (+30mins). I guess the population is
just more "lumpy" these days with people on quiet servers able to transfer
to more active servers adding to the problem. >> Stay informed about: low player population in game?!? |

I play on Malorne, Alliance side. I notice on east coast mornings the
serverr is very empty, I look at this as a plus, it lets me hit the
spots where Black Lotus grows, and other spots to make a bit of cash. I
never see it get so crowded that there is a problem, usually when
grinding in a quest area, I will notice another player or two, and
maybe a hundred people in front of the IF auction house at normal play
times. but early in the morning there might only be a handfull of
people in IF.
Are you guilded? we have quite a few players in your level. We have
about 25 60's so not enought to start raiding yet, but we are activily
helping our lower players to level, each of us officers does lower
instance runs several times a week, to keep the low-mid level players
in gear and money.
If you are looking for people to play with, send me a tel in-game,
perhaps we can get you set up.

There aren't manny middle weight servers out there -- either the
populations are huge, or the servers are a vast wasteland. Low
population is good for solo questing, especially on PvP servers (e.g.
you're not going to get ganked). Large population servers are good for
instance PUGs and raiding guilds.
Also, the population for most servers is L60 heavy. Everyone gets to
L60 and parks, its the end-game state. Think of it this way -- there
are more L60 characters on a server than ALL the other levels combined.
I find questing in the high 30s/40s to be lonely, as most people give
up on their alts unless they're serious about getting them to 60 at
that point.
BTW, Malorn seems to have half the population of my server Eitrigg, and
but Suramar seems okay (although very Alliance heavy).

If the server was previously full and lagging, some big guilds may have
moved to less populated realms. Few months ago I created a new character
on EU-Bladefist. The population was quite low, and I thought that it
was a new realm. I was really wrong. It is actually one of the oldest
realms, and I was told that people had moved to other realms. >> Stay informed about: low player population in game?!? |

It probably has a lot to do with your level. I play on Aggramar US,
which is a rather old server that was closed to new character creation
for a long time (I do know that character transfers to it just started
though so this might have changed).
With that limitation, virtually every active player on the server had a
toon at lvl 60. With no influx of new players, all the low level areas
are basically alts, and are quite sparsely populated. If you go to
EPL, WPL, Silithus, etc though, then there are people everywhere.
There is also (as some others) some waning interested in the game
(though I'd imagine it will pick up again w/ the expansion). We've had
7 or 8 players in our guild decide to take breaks from the game
recently, one of whom officially quit and deleted his chars. That
being said, so far it hasn't gotten too bad yet.

How does one switch a character to a different realm? I thought that
was not possible, that once a character was created in a realm it was
stuck there. >> Stay informed about: low player population in game?!? |

There's a paid transfer system available now - it's got a load of
restrictions on it, but you can move characters to other realms now.
