It is possible to go to Outlands and start collecting quests at lvl
57. I have done this on two toons that I have levelled since WotLK
came out - one melee and one caster, lvl 57 - 58 wasn't exactly easy,
a couple of deaths....but it is sooooooo much quicker doing those
handful of quests to get you to level 58.
Easiest way to get to Outlands at 57 is to buy a mage port to
Shattrath (don't forget to get the flight path while you're there!),
then run through terrokar forest and into HFP.

Check your mining, I think you do mining??, outland fel iron needs 300
For the next 3 levels grab every thorium you see particularly rich nodes,
get some white gloves with mining enchant if near enough to 300.
Similarly for any other gathering profession, check the levels for outland
otherwise you will need to come back and skillup.
Once 58, and skilled, go to outland asap, the rewards are far better than
slogging another 2 levels in oldworld.
If you get expansion and roll a dk while a dk may be near 58 at end of the startzone
and able to go to outland it may need to hang around, and happen to get another level or 2
while doing skillups before it is worth going there.
You are a warrior?, I would really suggest you get the expansion and roll a DK
just to see, while they converge towards 80 a 58 dk is hell on wheels compared to
warrior.
on the other hand you may never get back to the warrior 
Outland then northrend on a DK is probably the fastest way to make levels
and gather gold and rewards for a first-main.
Since you are short of gold seriously consider which character is going to get
mount, and whether you need the mount, you will be in northrend
soon enough and unable to fly until 77 anyway. |

My experience was different, at least it was the last time I entered
HFP at 58. I distinctly remember there being quests I couldn't pick up
because of my level (some might even require 61+).
The most recent alts I've brought into Outlands came through the
portal at level 60. I finished up questing in Azeroth in Eastern
Plaguelands/Felwood/Winterspring (didn't even go to Western
Plaguelands or Sithilus). The quests are easy and you're getting good
XP anyway so going from 58 -> 60 didn't take much time, and in my
opinion led to a more efficient and slightly easier Outland
experience.
My recommendation, unless you're desperate to see Outlands then quest

That's what happens when we use portals to get all our friends to the
Outlands or Northrend. We might miss some of the scenic views!
Tyler's hunter has had his home in Dalaran since about level 20. He
says the pillows in Dal beat the stone in IF.

Agreed, especially as it's a new player, I always stay in Azeroth till
60 regardless, but for a new player who's never even seen most of
Azeroth, all the better to explore a little.

since TBC release, so far as I'm aware. There's hostile lvl 53-54 ones
around the edges, up on the hills, but none in the crater itself.

With the phasing, Blizzard could change the zone, and make it like before
the opening of the dark portal.
You go there before 58 : the portal is closed, inactive, and there are only
wandering demons.
You got there at 58 (or later) : the portal is open, with the legion
coming, and the quest to kill some, like three years ago.
After doing the quest, the defenders win, the demons go back, and you can

My problem is that I dislike all the upper level Azeroth zones.
* Eastern Plaguelands bugs me with its kill bucketloads of slug things,
four different kinds of bats and demon dogs.
* Silithus where everything seems to poison you and a lot of mobs are
quite tough (at level 58 anyway).
* Winterspring seems to have too many quests where you have to kill a
lot more of a mob than exist in the zone so you need to make a lot of
trips between a lot of smallish camps.
I'm usually quite happy to hit 58 and head out to Outlands. The start
of TBC was my favourite time in WoW and I still like most of the zones.
If anything, I think that I'd go to Outlands as early as possible and
stick there until 70 before going to Northrend.

I actually checked around for Hostiles on my Banker, er, *Rogue* today
on the way to checking the Shat fishing quest. Didn't see anything but
yellow.

Or save yourself an (eventual) cost and buy a port to Dalaran, set
your stone there, and take the free port to Shat
