I have an exception to Cliff's rule of not clearing pits.

My current gear, class is NPP rogue.

Swap: BoC *Slay Demon*, Acid/Fire brand halberd.
Sling of Buckland
Barahir(+1)
RoSpeed(+Cool
Elessar [ Heal activation ]
Thalkettoth
Colannon
Anarrion
Gondor(+3) [ Heal activation ]
Cesti of Power
Boots of stealth

Speed: +19, HP 633. (CON 18/140)
340K turns, cl 41, 4400'.

I can replace Elessar with Carlammas for 674 HP, but that means losing
two speed and a heal activation.

But what I really need is a RoCON, and the only way to get one is to
kill a lot of mediocre monsters with big drops. I haven't seen one
better than +1 the entire game. Killing high-value monsters doesn't
help, because they only drop "good" stuff, which unfortunately doesn't
include RoCON.

It would also help with stat potions, but it is much easier to sell
stuff back to the store and purchase stats in the alchemist.

(I am at a depth where I am willing to brand ammo in the store, since
in a regular game, I would have it from Tenser's at this depth.)

Well, I guess I don't have an exception after all. I cleared a dragon
pit, found some junk. I killed Maeglin and got Thorin. The second was
a better use of time.

Nah -- what you really need is Thorin + Cambeleg.
I suppose Nenya + Vilya wouldn't be so horrible either.

However, I would have to say you are missing the point. The thing
that makes diving interesting is that you are forced into different
situations. A ring of con is the easy choice, and not so
interesting. This way you get to face greater danger. Enjoy it!!

I know, I know, I was wrong. Especially wrong in NPP where you can
convert loot to CON/healing, if you are deep enough to force artifact
generation. Of course, Morgoth is much easier to kill in Vanilla, so
it doesn't require so many resources.

Still, teasing the Wyrms out of the middle of a pit is very profitable.
It's another place where NPP is easier than Vanilla, since they can
push the lesser monsters out of the way, while the lesser monsters
can't detect you. NPP has many opportunities to exploit; they are just
less obvious than Vanilla's.

Poll: How much time do you use fo ra win. - Hi all. In "Collected Vanilla wish list" thread I have discussed with Pete and Cliff and then a question raised: How many hours do you usually need for winning the game. Not turns, hours. Real Time. Just playing time, don't count lunchtime....

[Z] arrows of wounding? - I picked up some of these -- arrows of wounding, 3d4, (+1,+3), which struck me as pretty pitiful. Do they have some damage multiplier I know not wot, or are they basically just arrows, +1 to hit, +3 to dam? And if so, what does "of wounding"...

{all} Sleeping Monsters - So, what if you could move past sleeping monsters (say in a hallway) without waking them. Would this be interesting? If so, should it be the default behaviour, or should it accesed through a special key? Should moving past them wake them up? Joshua

[vanilla] best race for a Ranger? - I have beaten the game twice already, with a Gnome Mage and a Dwarf Priest. I am now working on an Dunadan Warrior (around dlevel 55 or so), and I think after this I will try a Ranger. But I don't know which Race to choose for my Ranger, what are the..
