I have a Dell Pentium 3 with a Winfast A1808B 3D-video card
with 128MB ram (on the video card).

When I try to play Doom 3, the graphics move jerkily instead of
smoothly.

What would be the fix for this? Does my video card need to be
upgraded?

Thanks!

Yes, upgrade the video card.

What would be a reasonable card to get?

Pretty difficult to really answer that, because it depends what you want
to do with the machine. If you want to play Doom3, I would recommend an
Nvidia 6600GT or 6800GT (about $150 and $275 respectively). Personally,
I'm going to upgrade in a month or so, and going with an Nvidia 7800GT for
about $375, which will get me through the next couple of years worth of
new game releases. It pays to get more than you think you need now, to
avoid having to keep upgrading so often.

Your problem is the Radeon 9200.

You have twice the minimum memory, but on a weak video card.

You're still thinking wrong. The amount of memory isn't the biggest
factor on a video card's performance. The GPU is. Again, the 9200 is
pretty weak by today's standards.

Well, yeah. How else are you going to get a decent card?

Yes, I'm sure.

Games like this are not meant to be played at 640x480.

So did I. If you'll read my previous post again, it said "games like
this"... which is referring to Doom3, not Doom.

Dan C is right. Your 9200 is too old and too slow. If you're on a budget, it
runs fine at 1024x768 on a 9800 Pro but if you can afford it go for
something more modern like an X700.
