I spotted what seems to be the identical problem to what I'm
experiencing.. Nightblades and thieves in the guard the mage guild
quests who leave no bodies, the invisible target in the sleep quest.
Also the invisible, unclickable items for joining the thieves guild/DB
quests.
Although I can't imagine it's the same cause.. The google group search
turned up an issue when running QEMM - but win XP doesn't use that, does it?
I'm reading another post that suggests it's a flat fault in my video
card.. Exact suggestion for resolution is "shoot your video card
manufacturer". Downloading a driver set that I believe is more recent
than what I have. If anyone else has experienced and fixed this, I'd
appreciate a heads up. My video card is geforce4 mx 420, current drivers
from 03/04. Downloading drivers supposedly put out just 3 months ago
now. And, umm.. yeah, win xp, athlon 900mh, 512mb ram. And no sound. Do
you have to run vdmsound everytime you start, or just when you're
installing? >> Stay informed about: invisible quest targets (partly buggy mage guild quests) |

I am by no means an expert on this, but from what I have read all
those problems (and more) turn up when you run Daggerfall on Windows
XP and high speed CPUs. In this case high speed means anything above
450 megahertz. I know this much because I used to run Daggerfall on a
450 with Windows 98 and was just catching the very edge of some of the
most common problems. Even then I found that Daggerfall ran better
when I ran a slow-down utility with it.

Again, I don't know much about this, but it seems to me that the
problem is not that you need newer drivers for your video card, but a
way to make Daggerfall think it is working with an older card of the
type it was designed for. All the newer stuff has left Daggerfall way
behind and it can't cope. Personally, I run Daggerfall on an old AMD
5x86, 33mb ram and DOS 6.11. Daggerfall and I are both very happy
with this arrangement.
