| To cut a long story short, will probably lose the nail on the left hand's
fifth finger. Cannot at present use it for typing. [Blanket excuse for any
decreased performance.]

Yikes. What the hell did happen? And is it the whole nail (with root, so
it can't grow back) or will it grow back?

As everyone outside of the UK/US/Canada/Australia... erm... In more
civilized regions of the world the thumb is counted as a finger. In fact
that's the notation most musicians will use. Fifth finger=the smallest
one. ::nods::
> just not use q, a, or z. I mean come on who uses "a" anyway...
As I hardly ever use the fith fingers for typing (I mainly use the
second and third ones and the first/[3]forth ones ocassionally) that
wouldn't be that much of a problem for me.
But jokes aside, I think the best thing to do would be typing with just
one hand. That might be quite uncomfortable and slow, but it *will*
prevent you from using said finger accidently. A good bandage of some
sorts might help.
[3] Of course I had to contradict myself at this point by using the
fifth finger for pressing the shift key...

Was beginning a harp lesson, and the stool was crooked such that one sitting
on it couldn't actually use the harp for playing purposes. Was somewhat
tired, sat down, gripped the edges that stuck out 'decoratively', and pulled
up and around in a short sharp motion, to inch it into the proper position.
The stool was actually hollow, and the lid came up and then slammed down on
the nail, which was then between it and the stool proper. Very
excruciatingly painful.
> And is it the whole nail (with root, so
> it can't grow back) or will it grow back?
Most who saw it thought that it would fall out and a new one would grow in,
but as time has passed I'm growing hopeful that maybe that won't happen--I
don't know exactly where the nail was trapped, so it's hard to tell.
At the beginning, it was constantly painful, and had at first be kept under
constant pressure to be bearable. At the first opportunity, it was bandaged
and bound to the fourth finger [of the left hand], which could then be used
(extremely awkwardly) to press all the keys needed [very slowly]. At night,
the bandage was cut away, and one particularly good sign was that I was able
to sleep without medication (while it was predicted that medication would be
necessary), though said finger hurt too much to type for some time.
By now, quite encouragingly, it barely twinges when I type with it, and my
typing speed is more or less back to normal. I have no idea whether the
nail will be lost or remain as it is, but I'm hoping for a convenient
outcome, supported by the signs of recovery so far. *happiness*

Ouch! Painful enough just *imagining* it.

Or he could type with one hand using Shift(with middle finger)+ key on
left side of keyboard as if it is on the right e.g.
oP hO .oulL {ypI (etc.) <g>

Get a nice medium-sized stick, tape it(using one hand) to your
forehead, and press shift with that. >> Stay informed about: By the way: injured. |

Ring finger? And "pinky"? Anyway, in English you actually have eight
fingers and two thumbs, but there's absolutely no point in numbering
them without including the thumb.

You can use the same hand you used to tape the stick to your forehead.
But you would have to type blind as you can't look up (unless you have a
small laptop perhaps)

Er. I'd hope where the other one used to be (the process was described as
the root of the first being damaged, and a new one growing)--though if I'm
very lucky, the question will be moot.

You also didn't have 'collegues' that thought it was funny to shout
dirty words while passing by your desk A good friend of mine tried
voice recognition once when he couldn't use his arms effectively..
He doesn't use voice recognition anymore, go figure.

Voice recognition just doesn't work. At least not good enough. I'm a lot
faster with a keyboard...

Ok, lets see, it said:
Or he could type with(the sentence above it). "o" stays the same, "r"
becomes Shift+p(because p is in the same position as r(on a Qwerty
keyboard at least), but with the other hand), h stays the same, e
becomes shift+o because o is in the same position as e, but with the
other hand. etc.

Ok, then use your nose, might make things a little fiddly tho.
A simpler sollution (sp?) - use the on-screen keyboard. >> Stay informed about: By the way: injured. |
