Post subject: Is there any way, to improve the graphics in ut99 with the d3d8 ?
Archived from groups: alt>games>unreal>tournament (more info?)

Hi,
some weeks ago i tried the D3D8 driver for ut99.
Is there any way to make ut99 look really better?
For Example in ut 2003 the water has got some waves.
Or the fog and lightnings look better because of the
full directx 8 support and the new physics engine etc...
With the D3D8 driver ut99 looks a bit better but not really
better if you think about what is possible with directx 8
support

Personally, I always thought the OGL driver did a better job of making
UT "prettier".

There is the very nice high-res textures and of course upping the
resolution to max but that's it. UT is basicly a DX6 game with regards
to technology.

Kind regards

I second that, OpenGL is the way to go, looks better, feels better when
playing, and with VSYNC turned on you can not go wrong, also tbh i think
turning certain details like flares and damage effects like bullet holes on
walls will improve your gameplay and aim, as all they do is distract you.

That was an interesting discussion on the official forums once upon a time
as to whether turning off foliage constituted cheating. If I play online I
turn everything extra off because it does distract. I've read where the
elite players often use minimal details so as to keep distractions down
in-game.
