How can I improve/use cooking and leatherworking skill

Hi there,

I've chosen Skinning & leatherworking as primary skills & cooking as one of
my secondary skills. Although i've got the skinning figured out just fine, I
can't figure out how to make use of the cooking and leatherworking skills.
On one hand I can't increase my skill on these without making up a recipie
or pattern but on the other hand any recipies/patterns that are available
are for a greater level than I'm at (which is 1 on both skills). Also when
I first got the cooking skill it said in the chat/log pane that i could now
make something like 'Charred Wolf Steak' but i can't find anything in my
inventory/skills etc about it. I rmember something similar happening when i
first got the leatherworking skill too

Could anyone advise me on how to get started on these two skills started
please cos i'm a bit confused about it
