I think the key is that you DIDN'T save the world. You weren't the
hero. Martin was. Yeah you got him there, yeah you did a lot of dirty
work but in the end there wasn't a blessed thing you could do.
It did give me this horribly strange feeling that everyone else was
just moving on with life (literally the AI just reverts to its normal
schedule) and I was left sitting there going "WAIT a minute!" Felt a
bit of the shell shocked fighter wanting SOMEONE to acknowledge that
something horrible had just happened and they were all too busy with
thier nice comfy little lives. That worked for me, I thought it was a
good thing. IT actually took my character a few real in game days and
a bit of "retrace her steps" journey to get back into the swing of
things and start doing some dungeon delving and some quests. It all
seemed rather, well POINTLESS after what she'd just witnessed.
Ocato struck me all the way through as a little, mmm, less than
helpful. The guy gets to KEEP power now, no handing it over to some
upstart royal bastard. I got the impression he wanted to sweep the
whole unpleasant mess under the rug and get back to being "regent".
You were useful, but you are also a rather unpleasant reminder of
unpleasant things. Give you a reward, send you on your way.
For me the ending was rather a shock. I'm an OLD TES player, the
Emperor has always been a character back there in the shadows of the
story. Even if he didn't make an appearance his hands were in
everything. Its a wild change for the TES world, I'm looking forward
to see where they take it. I'm imagining civil war will figure in the
next game.
