I have a Firewall. I also have cable modem. For whatever reason, I
can't host a game on Battlenet.

My friends will be on the phone and say "I can't see you."

Anyone here encountered this problem?

Try having your firewall forward incoming UDP packets on port 6112 to
your computer running Starcraft (and, of course, make sure that you can
send similar packets out).

If he's looking for the game in the game list... Don't. Just type the
name/password into the respective boxes and hit OK.

And yeah, like Chris said, if you're doing NAT you need to make sure
to forward ports 6112-6118 (? or something. Might have been WC3) in
both directions, TCP and UDP, I think.

For all blizzard games it is 6112 default.

Where you are getting confused is that War III has a customizable game
port - so you would forward one of each 6112, 6113 . . . to each
computer on your lan.

SC will receive and transmit on any of the ports 6112 - 6118 but it
first has to receive a UDP packet on that port to start it. It is
possible to set this up using a linux box for routing or certain
advanced box routers.

I imagine it is theoretically possible to setup the mapping from a
firewall like program on the client computer - but AFAIK, no such
application has been made.

Thanks for the reply.

I had the windows Firewall on. As a test I turned it off. I also have
PC illin software. I turned that Firewall off. I was then able to
host.

Understand that I am not that good with PCs. How then do I forward
incoming UDP packets?

If you can host a game (not join - but actually host) then you are fine
already.
