I'm looking for an add-on like PartyBars that lets me attach buttons to
each character so I don't have to target them. When I use PartyBars, I
get errors or conflicts with Ace add-ons -- plus, I can never quite
understand how it works. Whenever I replace the spell icons in the
PartyBars, it messes up the spells I have on my action bar too. Somehow
they are connected and I don't like that.

I tried XUB, which seems nice at first and highly customizable, but the
way the bars line up (or don't, really, as the case is) with the
character portraits is really quite ugly and obtrusive. Maybe there's
something I'm missing, but even after repositioning them (with x and y
coordinates) it still doesn't place the bar in the right place for other
people, just for me.

So is there anything else that does this kind of thing? It would help
out immensely when healing.

Ahh, if it's a shadowpriest you'll have trouble with the shadowform bar but
I never found PartyBars causing trouble otherwise, do you use any actionbar
mods or just default Blizzard bars? I've always used the default bars and
it works fine with both my priests as long as I keep them holy specced.

Hmm am I right in thinking you're a druid? It does clash with shapeshift
bars, yep, my undead priest had a problem when I went shadow for a bit - I
kept the partybars up for healing but it kept overwriting the shadowform
bar which annoyed me a lot, luckily I didn't last long as shadow anyway.

There's a few others that work the same way though, Benecast if you can
find it, UnitButtons
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=6965 , extreme
unitbuttons
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info6794-eXtremeUnitButtons.html -
both those seem to be being kept more up to dat than PartyBars too, just
I've not got around to switching yet, even though they've been in my
favourites menu as possible alternatives for ages Smile

I use unitbuttons and love it. I used to love benecast, but ever since the
patch that broke all addons, even though it has been kept up, it has just
been too buggy for me....

Clique:

Does not apply buttons to the portraits but you can define
mouse-button clicks to apply spells to the targeted player. Like Heal,
Renew etc. You can also define ALT and SHIFT clicks if you wish.

I use the default UI. What happens seems to be that when PartyBars
starts for the first time, the icons in the bar mirror what's in my
action bar (although this last time it just had the "Shoot" icon in all
the slots, Shoot being in my #1 slot on my action bar). When I remove
anything from the PartyBars bar, it also gets deleted from my action bar.

Yes, I used clique too. It was the only gui type add on I used other
than maps. It even helps out non-healers quite a lot as well, and
I set up the middle mouse button to be "target this person's target"
which is useful for any class.

Ctrl-click for minor heals, shift-click for medium, alt-click for
major,
and so forth (then there's the right-click that can be used).

For 5-man groups it's perfect.

The all the same icon thing came with this last patch, there was a
workaround posted on the addon page, which worked for me - it's all working
normally again anyway. Can't remember exactly what the workaround was; it
was changing text in a couple of files anyway.

Ok, somehow I worked around it (even though PartyBars is conflicting
with Ace addons it seems), but when I invited someone to a group to test
it out, it didn't add a bar for that person. Or rather, it added a new
empty bar....is there a way to just make the same bar appear for anybody
in your group, or even anyone you target?

If you set up the bar for one party member it'll give the same bar for all
other party members - the idea of a different one for you the player is so
you can put self-only spells like inner fire on it I think. Haven't seen a
target bar in that version but probably one of the others does it - I'll
have to look into that, as if I can find one, planting it beside Grid could
solve some of my ui layout problems (I'm a clicker and atm have to put Grid
near my normal actionbars... which means it's usually on top of my
character :-/)

But does that same bar remain if you leave a group and then join another
one later, or do you have to set it up again each time you get in a group?

It saves it, yes, so when you join a new group the same bar is there. I set
mine up ages ago, never needed to change them since Smile

One thing I don't like, though, is that it's a pain to have to rearrange
all the buttons when you have a new spell to add. If you want to insert
it, then you have to manually move everything around.

I tried Grid just now but didn't even see a "partybars" type of
interface. All I saw was a single little button with my name on it, and
even in a group I saw no way to make a spell bar for the members.

I'm wasting so much time right now just trying to figure out these
add-ons. Sad

Grid isn't a partybars type addon, it's a raidframes addon, that's why Razz
Unless you raid, don't bother with it, you don't need it.
