I'm assuming that you are running the Dos version of Quake under
Windows XP.
The basic solution is to get WinQuake or GLQuake, alongside the 1.06
patch (if you don't have it already.) The better solution involves
the Quake Source ports - one was already recommended but there's plenty
to choose from.
