Well, if you say so, maybe I'll have a look for a copy. It can't be any
worse than Next Life, I guess Wink
Oh, on second thought, I'll NOT have a copy of Dreamfall; the European
version has S***Force on it! I'm out!
Ciao, E-Cie.

Is anything going to be done about it though - more new adventure games in
the near future? They have been pretty scarce the last few years.

Yes. (That was what they said in the link I posted.) Here are a few
examples of interesting upcoming games:

Sam and Max season 2 (first episode is out, but more to come)
Gray Matter - from Jane Jensen(Q1 2008)
A Vampyre story - from people of MI3 fame (Q1 2008)
Simon the Sorcerer 4 (released in Germany - English release early 2008)
Overclocked (released in Germany - English release early 2008)
Sinking Island - from Sokal's team (Q1 2008)
Mata Hari - from Hal Barwood and Noah Falstein (Q1 2008)
So Blonde - from Steve Ince (Feb. 2008)
Still Life 2 (Nov 2008 - maybe I'll taka a look at Still Life 1 now. I
wasn't interested before since I heard the ending is left hanging.)

it focuses a lot on a survey about adventure game players still liking
adventure games, but I didn't notice anything specific about more adventure
games will be made because of any kind of renewed popularity, unless I
missed that.

The only thing I see above that I might like and too soon to tell would be
"Gray Matter" and that would be because of Jane Jensen writing such games as
Gabriel Knight 1,2,3 . I read a bit about some of the the story of Gray
Matter, but I am not sure if I would be interested in the game or not. I
will see when the game comes out which is probably not for a while.
I am disappointed in Sokal after hearing quite a lot of negative comments
about "Paradise" game. It was nothing near as successful as his Syberia I
and II games which I enjoyed very much, especially Syberia I. My daughter
also loved it and I bought it for my other daughter who does not play many
computer games for Christmas.
I liked Simon I very much, but not Simon II, so I never bought it after
Simon II. I never played Still Life 1. Sam and Max was ok, but I don't think
I would buy any more in the series unless it was very cheap. As for the rest
of the games, I haven't heard of them - at least not yet. I am re-playing
7th Guest right now. I like the variety of puzzles. The last game I played
was Sacred Rings which was a while ago. I don't see anything coming up
fairly soon that I am really anxiously waiting to play, but maybe something
will turn up (I hope). Hope you have a nice Christmas Rikard and best wishes
for 2008.

An adventure gamer is supposed to be able to take their time. Smile

Maybe it was partly in the context of it, then, and not only specifically
in that article. (I read most things on Adventure Gamers. In my humble
opinion, they're the best gaming site out there.)

I can't say anything on the quality of those games either, since they're
not released yet, but the point was that there's a lot of new games on
their way. On the list I posted, all games but Still Life 2 are to be
released in the beginning of 2008.

> I am disappointed in Sokal after hearing quite a lot of negative

Me too. I'm not going to get Paradise, but Sinking Island may still turn
out good. It'll at least be good looking.

> I liked Simon I very much, but not Simon II, so I never bought it after

I'm no big Simon fan, but it might be fun.

> I never played Still Life 1.

Me neither, but from what I've heard it's not that bad, except for the
ending not being a proper ending, so I'll probably give it a try when the
sequel is out.

> Sam and Max was ok, but I don't think I would buy any more in the

I love Sam and Max, but tastes differ.

> As for the rest of the games, I haven't heard of them - at least not

A Vampyre Story is by a team led by Bill Tiller, who among other things
is the one responsible for the backgrounds in Curse of Monkey Island. It
looks like it could be a fun game. I was not impressed by the trailer,
but the backgrounds are beautiful, and the concept sounds like fun.

Mata Hari is designed by Hal Barwood and Noah Falstein, and that's enough
for me to pay attention. They're the ones who designed Indiana Jones and
the Fate of Atlantis. Espionage and dialogue puzzles also sounds like
fun.

What I've read so far about So Blonde, by Broken Sword designer Steve
Ince, does remind a bit of Runaway, but I am hoping it'll be a better
game.

I still have a pile of unplayed oldies, so lack of time is the main
reason I don't play more adventure games, but I'll continue to post a
small comment here each time I finish one.

Ah the 7th guest. Put a $200 2X CD player and a sound blaster card in my
PC just so I could play that game. 11th hour was good also.

I had to buy a new video card to play 7th Guest. My video card played every
game I had played till the 7th Guest. I think I had a Cirrus Logic 512k or
something, and when I went to the store to buy a new video card, the clerk
was surprised,
and said "you mean you are buying a new video card just to play one game?"
(since a 512k card at the time was all you needed for any game till that
time). the time there was so much hype about 7th Guest coming out because
the graphics were better than any games up to that point and the story was
good. After I played 7th Guest, I felt it was worth buying the new video
card for. The 7th Guest was a pioneer of its time. I liked 11th Hour too,
but liked 7th Guest a little more. So even though 7th Guest is old now, and
the graphics are not the latest, I still think its a good game. Its too bad
that Trilobyte went downhill after they made "Clandestiny" which I liked OK
too, or they might have made another game like 7th Guest or 11th Hour.

I hope you are using the Windows update and not DOS. It plays much
faster smoother under Windows. (however that was Win98 - don't know
about XP) Also I found a good web page about Trilobyte and their success
and failures. Let's see it's a Gamespot Bio at:

I am playing it in Dosbox, so its Dos. My main partition is Win 98, and Win
XP is on another partition for times I need it. But most of the time I do
everything in Win 98 - so far. I haven't had any problem running 7th Guest
in Dosbox version 0.65 I think. The picture is too dark in some areas of the
game. I have an LCD and have to brighten up the gamma on my video card way
up high, which is a lot better, but still too dark in a few areas such as at
the side of the main stairs and the other side of the stairs where the
library and the piano room are. I found my CRT was better at displaying very
dark areas in a game better than my LCD, though I like the LCD in many ways.
It doesn't take up near as much space on my desk which is not all that big,
but I still think the the CRT was more uniform colors for games. But LCD's
have improved greatly over the past 5 years. These are just my opinions.
Others may feel differently. At any rate, the game is running fine and I'm
about three quarter way through. I might re-play one of my other games,
since I don't see anything coming up in new games yet.

You should try (sometime) the windows EXE update for 7th guest (and 11th
hour). I remember it was about twice as fast moving around the mansion.
I had a old DX-386 PC and it seemed like I was jogging instead of walking!

However if Dosbox works...

I plod along in most games, so I am OK, but maybe I will try the EXE update
sometime just to see what its like. Yes, Dosbox works fine. You may remember
there are shortcuts in some rooms that take you from downstairs to upstairs
if you click on something in the room. I am now working on the dreaded
microscope game. It took me a couple of months to finish it the first time I
played, and I don't think I tried it since. I would try it for a couple of
hours in the evg.- a little longer on weekends. One Saturday, I could see it
was going to work out, and I couldn't believe it. I don't think you have to
do it to complete the game, but I wanted to see if I could do it so I am
trying it again. I have to turn Stauf's voice off a lot of the time in the
game. He gets on my nerves. I like the variety of puzzles in the game.
Maybe I will try 11th Hour after I finish T7G.

You know that microscope game gets harder the faster your computer is.

I remember trying the Windows EXE once and it was *too* fast. Way more
than twice as fast, the room transitions were over in like 0.5 seconds
- and that was on a PII-350 MHz. Obviously not scaled for the CPU speed.
I immediately went back to the DOS version. Smile
