Hi all!
I wonder if anyone here would mind helping me with a problem........
I have FS 2002 Professional..........and Windows ME (ugh). Occasionally
my joystick used to work (be recognized) by Windows, but usually
nowdays it will not (therefore FS is basically useless). It worked
better a fairly long time ago, maybe 70% of the time, but recently the
computer hardly ever realizes I even have a stick connected......so I'm
simply not able to fly anymore. I recently re-installed Windows ME, but
the stick has only worked one time (for a couple of hours) since then.
The stick is a Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2. I've tried refreshing
the control panel, never has worked. Starting computer with joystick
plugged in, nope. Plugging in after startup, no joy. Reloaded the
Sidewinder Software, nothing. I'm really about at my wits end here, and
MS can't seem to help. They say newest video drivers for ME, but I'd
already done that, as well as the latest DirectX. The stick checks out
on a friend's computer in the control panel, so it's ok, and the USB's
are ok (I checked them with another brand of software for another type
of control pad, and the joypad and software (Gravis) worked fine on my
computer.)
Can anyone offer me a bit of help..........please!
Thanks,

while you have flight sim upon the screen, unplug and replug the joystick
cord going into the usb. make sure you listen for the sound (it will be 2
tones low and high, but cannot remember which order tho) when you unplug it
tho, and when you plug back in. Usually works for me. I have XP, but I spect
ME should work the same.

I have 2 computers with XP and both have a Sidewinder attached. One
always recognizes the joystick at launch, the other one never does. Go
figure. I apply the same solution as <capt> - unplugging the USB and
plugging it back in - and it works for me too. I never bothered to
check in the control pannel as the joystick works in FS and in the
configuration window. Maybe you should install/upgrade USB2 drivers to
ME, as I don't remember if it has any by default: 98 doesn't and XP
does.
