What's a good (best?) helicopter combat sim out there at the moment? Looking
for something with a modern cockpit, good graphics and realistic flight
dynamics.

Have you tried the "Enemy Engaged" games? I have the older one -
Apache/Havoc. I remember liking it, but I've got so many sims, I can
never commit enough time to any of them. Also, you really need rudder
pedals to get any good out of rotary sims.

P4-2400, 1GB RAM, Nvidia 6600GT, 80GB HDD, 19" CRT monitor suitable for
1600*1200 - I'm using FS2004 where I fly helos, but want to try the combat
side of things. Prefer something with modern (glass) cockpits, but not
essential.

Theres the enemy engaged series but also Gunship! which the modders have
been doing wonders with I'm told. It may be hard to find now but.
There is also a helo expansion for Lomac coming up.

Enemy Engaged i think is the current SIM favourite, but myself have Comanche
Gold.I find it quite good but it's just a lot of canned missions,no
campaign.Max rez is only 800x600 too(mmm...voxels).Runs fine in XP
Don't buy Comanche4, it reverted to more arcade type action IMO

Definitely Enemy Engaged series. The code was released and diligent
and talented people have been working on it ever since.

Head to simhq.com and visit their forums. Some excellent strides have
been made into making this sim even better.

I was just thinking about something CJ said before he went Elvis--about
a dream study-sim based on the P-38. Looks like one we'll never see.

PAPADOC is back !!!

Nice to see you're still here PAPADOC.

I remember you from back in the day on here.
What are you doing these day, which sims are you still playing ?

Still flying the pink flanker ? or are you playing Falcon full now
with
the lead pursuit release ?

Not really back as just visiting...don't fly sims anymore to few minutes in the
day. Pretty much only enjoy stuff that doesn't force me to learn 300 different
commands to have fun. Pitiful I know but there you go. Have always wanted to put
together a single joystick file that would fly most Jet Sims but have been
unable to find common grounds in the sims I play. Flanker, Falcon, and sometimes
whatever prop sim strikes my fancy.

I have the Falcon Lead Pursuit sim and while its surely a terrific piece of work
have not flown it for more time than it takes me to wonder which damn button
makes the missile go zoom. Flanker became frustrating after I discovered that
there seemed to be several different definitions of front cockpit
view...unamusing to me.

Used to say give me choices but now see the problem in having too much
selection...

I have flow some Su-27 and have to say that the AI and controls are
brilliant...the AI is a lot better to me than Flanker. 4 vs 1 is fun...not
target shooting.

Well there you go now lets let all the fanboys come around and tell me how
hardcore pilots like to do it with 2 million different keystrokes...doesnt
interest me anymore.

The flying is great and I have met some tremendous people in simulations but I
simply don't have the time with 3 children, homeschooling, building an addition
and working 50+ hours a week in addition to keeping my blog going.

Grand Prix Legends on the other hand is hehehe a guilty pleasure of mine. If I
figure out how to program these CH sticks to have one file for all sims I will
be golden.

There far more than anyone wants to know. But maybe some developer still wonders
why people aren't flying as much as they used to...this is my answer.
