I've got the music volume turned down to 0, because I don't care to
hear the music that most people include with their maps. But in a lot
of maps I've downloaded, I still hear music. This last one was so
loud, I could barely hear the announcer over it. Do these map makers
take their lessons from spammers?
How can I turn off the music, completely and utterly?
Another thing that's related.
My music folder is currently 1.46 gigs. That's more than half of what
my UT99 (the whole game) folder is. If I don't want to listen to the
music that comes with maps, I shouldn't have to have it taking up
space on my hard drive. But if I don't have the file, I can't play
the map.
Is there a way around this? Have Epic taken this into consideration
for UT2007? Just think how much space that game's going to take. >> Stay informed about: Why am I hearing music when the music volume is turned dow.. |

The music folder on my UT2004 setup is 125MB.
Turning the music volume to 0 is that standard method of eliminating
music. Could be you have some screwed up maps.
Custom (user written) maps are hit and miss in terms of coding
quality. Some are good, some are terrible, and some will hose your
entire setup, forcing you to reload from scratch. Caveat emptor.
If I remember your past posts correctly, you've downloaded and
installed a lot of maps and mutators. Going overboard with loads of
custom maps and mutators is a possible recipe for disaster. At some
point, you might want to consider reloading and keeping only those
maps/mutators that you feel you can't live without. Games can be
fairly fragile things.... straying too far from the stock setup can
often lead to a host of problems. >> Stay informed about: Why am I hearing music when the music volume is turned dow.. |

Not always. There are certain maps around that use 'sounds' to play
music. I remember one in which there was a jukebox blaring out
old-timer rock-n-roll, and another that had a huge 5.1 stereo
playing some Eminem. Get's on your nerves after a while.
Only way around this is switching off effects sounds, but then you
won't even hear weapons shooting.

On a pleasant day while strolling in alt.games.unreal.tournament2003, a
person by the name of Todd exclaimed:

It's also possible someone is playing music over the voice chat system.

Thanks Ursa. That particular fact aggravated me for the longest time and now
I understand why some music can't be killed. I wonder if you turned the
sound actor to "off" if you could still coneect to an online game using the
map? >> Stay informed about: Why am I hearing music when the music volume is turned dow.. |

That's about what comes with the game.

Once, in original UT, the game crashed and ate my user and ut.ini
files. Oddly, with the last Epic patch, UT99 would lock up if a map
file name had an extra period in it, forcing me to reboot my system.

With UT99, I played through, it seems like, thousand of user maps
(botmatch). After the first play through, I dumped the really bad
ones. After the second play, which usually had a low goal score (1
flag cap, 5 or 7 deathmatch points), I'd put the best aside for
keeping.
It was difficult with deathmatch maps though, because there was so
many that were comparable in quality to the included and bonus pack
maps.
Once that was finished, I reinstalled the game, added the keepers, and
checked any maps that didn't show a screenshot for missing files. My
main game folder is about 2.4 gig, but I have another folder with 16
gig of maps and support files.
I'll be doing the same with 2004. Strangely, there are very few maps
that are being cut in the first run through, and those are mostly
Assault "race" and trial maps.
I'm even downloading Onslaught and Vehicle CTF maps just to see the
scenery. >> Stay informed about: Why am I hearing music when the music volume is turned dow.. |

I guess I should have mentioned that this is happening in offline
botmatches. It's something the map creator did in the file; as
someone else commented, the music is the background sound. >> Stay informed about: Why am I hearing music when the music volume is turned dow.. |
