Here's what I wrote for my guildmates (Horde, PVP server)
TBC tips and tricks
Guzzlers, TBC is knocking at the door. A week and a half from now, the
Dark Portal will open for us to enter a whole new territory of warfare,
questing, and guzzling fun.
At the same time, the Exodar will crash in Azuremyst Island, giving
shaman powers to the Alliance. And in distant Northern Plaguelands,
Blood Elves will yell "Remember the Sunwell" and give us Hordies
pleasures of paladinhood.
The Caverns of Time, will open its door to us, letting us fight side to
side with our warchief Thrall, with Medivh the Guardian of Azeroth, and
even with Heroes of the past such as Malfurion or Jaina.
The mysterious tower of Karazhan, guarded by emissaries of the Kirin
Tor, will reveal its secrets to us.
To quote Illidan, "you are not prepared!" - Let's prove him otherwise!
Here's the hitchhiker's guide to The Burning Crusade. Here's the
consolidated results of what I saw in the Outlands, and here are the
tips and tricks we all need to enjoy the best TBC experience right
away!
Level 60 and beyond - Opening the Dark Portal
The Dark Portal will open on release in the Blasted Lands - look no
further, Stonard is where you want to fly at first. This is where your
experience starts raising again.
You don't want to fill your quest log with "complete" quests, that
won't help your levelling one bit.
Yup yup, just complete everything - abandon whatever is left. You will
fill up your quest log VERY FAST in the Outlands, and quest rewards
there are much more generous when it comes to XP and gold.
You want to be riding an epic mount before entering the Outlands.
It's preferrable, not mandatory. When you reach level 70, you will have
to buy the 150 riding skill before buying the 225 riding skill and fly
around anyway (which is nothing more than a "key" to additional
content). And even then, you will enjoy the speed of an epic raptor or
wolf - faster on the ground than the normal flying chimaera.
You want to be questing in parties.
Most quests can be done solo. But it's so much faster and safer to do
them in a team! Some of your guildmates are and will keep their
healing/support build, and it will take them much longer than you to
complete some quests. If you want to have them in your instance
parties, you need to have them keep up with your level. Instances in
TBC have minimum levels requirements that are very steep sometimes, and
quests for instances and the like are unlocked on a per-level basis.
In other words, if you want to gang up on a quest that involves killing
a 62 elite, you pretty much have to have your favourite healers and
tanks at least level 61 - or they won't complete the quest.
You also want to party up because of the insanity of outdoor PVP we'll
be faced with at first.
Hellfire Peninsula is big and small at the same time
There are no less than 4 flight paths in the first zone in the
Outlands. The first one is directly to your right after you enter the
Portal and will lead you to the second one, don't miss it like I did
the first time
Hellfire Peninsula has enough questing material to reach level 62-63.
It also has two short (1 hour) instances designed for levels 60-64,
each with 3 bosses. That short, winged instances philosophy is what
you'll find all the way in TBC. Whenever you can, grab a run over
there!
In Hellfire Peninsula, you earn Reputation with three factions:
_Thrallmar, A Horde Outpost in the Outlands
_Silvermoon, Blood Elves, our new friends
_Maghar... a mysterious new faction. I won't reveal much more about
them at this point, just remember to do the quest to unlock them, you
will need it! The first quest in the chain is called "The Assassin" and
requires you to find someone. It will be the "Mankrik's wife" of TBC
(here are the coordinates before you get called a noob in general chat:
33,43)
You pretty much need to quest or do Hellfire Citadel instances to
upgrade your reputation with Thrallmar. Honored is rather easy to
reach, even kind of like an "automatic" grind, reverred requires a tiny
little bit of additional dedication (doing all quests or more instance
runs). There is a level 70 instance in Hellfire Citadel, so nope, if
you don't feel like grinding rep right now for this faction, you will
have plenty of time later on to let the reputation flow in.
You need to be reverred in order to get "keyed" to Heroic modes of
Hellfire Citadel instances.
To Shattrath, Robin!
Shattrath is the big neutral city in the Outlands. It's conveniently
located at the confluence of Hellfire Peninsula, Terrokar Forest and
Zangarmarsh. To reach it from Thrallmar, assuming you already have the
connecting flight paths, you need to cross the whole peninsula
westwards and enter Zangarmarsh. Then you go south and follow the road
leading to Terrokar. The city is to your right.
It has a bank, it has merchants, trade skill trainers, a flight master,
but no Auction House! (send your auctionables to an AH alt).
It also has portals to all the cities in Kalimdor (Thunder Bluff,
Orgrimmar) and Azeroth (Undercity, Silvermoon), even though those
portals are one way.
It has two inns where you can put your hearthstone to, and two banks to
use. Each inn and bank belongs to a faction: Aldor (draenei) or Scryer
(Blood Elves). You will be required to choose between the two of them
at some point - but that's not for now yet.
Just go find an inn (ask a peacekeeper) and set your hearthstone there
ASAP.
Whenever you need to learn new skills (new skills are every level now),
fly to shattrath, take a portal to Orgrimmar or wherever, and
hearthstone back to Shattrath.
FFS too many people in this Peninsula
You can perfectly skip Hellfire and go to Zangarmarsh and start
levelling there. The first quest hubs are right at the entrance of the
zone, one is north (with a flight path), and the other is south
(neutral faction quest hub). Quests will be a tiny bit harder at first,
but no biggies.
That's all for the Outlands starting tips. the rest is up to you to
discover, I don't want to spoil too much
>> Stay informed about: So, everyone heading to Shattrath City first?
