halo: combat evolved sound distortion

i recently got halo combat evolved for my pc, but after i had been playing it
for a while, the sound suddenly became really distorted and had lots of
static. i tried restarting the game but the same exact thing happened; i
worked for a while, then it suddenly became distorted. i even tried
reinstalling the game, but it didn't work. any information would be greatly
appricated/

It could be a few things, it could be your soundcard not functioning
properly or not installed correctly. It could also be the disk is scratched
meaning it cant read it properly aswell. Does you pc meet the requirements
for what it says on the back of the disk case?
