Has everyone just delieted this or moved to online forums?
Just wondering if the last batch of political drivel sounded the death knell
of the group.
If you're still around, how about sounding off...
Years ago this was a vibrant, active newsgroup, but no more. Falcon 5 could
be released complete with a real F-16 for the first 100 purchasers and it
wouldn't even get a notice here. It started to come back (on life support)
but then the 2008 elections started and someone got his second wind. >> Stay informed about: Is the group officially dead? |

Many of us are still 'here' it's just that there isn't much reason to
post. How many Action games are released each year? How many
Strategy games? How many RPGs? How many flight sims are released
each year, less than one? There simply isn't much worth talking about
- other than Mitch's rants, of course!

I'm still here, lurking mainly. I have found I can just check this group
about once a week and catch up in moments , unfortunately.
I guess the lack of flight sim releases, has played a part in the inactivity
of this group. However there certainly is considerable more activity, at
some of the web based flight sim forums like Frugals and Avsim.

I'm still hanging around but not posting much. The only news I have is
that a very nice fellow in Europe is repainting the Shockwave WW2
version of the P51D in a livery of a P51 that was associated with me for
a short while during my career in aviation. It will be for use in FS9
only as I'm using FSX at all.
Should be done soon. I'll be doing a story on the airplane for Simflight
when it's finished.
Other than that, nothing much going on with me and flight simulator.

I couldn't leave here even if I wanted! Mitch's cut & paste oratory is
just too funny to miss.
Seriously, this is the only place I check regularly because I trust
someone here to notice if there's anything interesting on the horizon,
and it doesn't suffer from too much forum chatter.
Overall though the silence reflects the state of the flight sim
universe... largely composed of dark matter which ought to exist, but
doesn't seem to.
Fortunately the EECH modders occasionally shine a little light into this
endless night, and I'm hoping Oleg can go supernova with his next
project.
ED *might* surprise us all with their new mission editor in Black Shark.
In fact I'm *far* more interested in that than the highly detailed
systems modelling of the Ka-50. A halfway decent mission editor (at
last!!!!) could breathe life into all the other aircraft as well, and
that's far more exciting.
And of course we mustn't forget Thunderworks and their project. That
remains a bit of an unknown despite all the video clips etc.
So we might have something to talk about over the next 12 months. Maybe.

I still read on-topic posts, but thanks to Papa Doc and then Mitch I
don't check in but every couple of days. That and a lack of new flight
sims keeps me away, honestly. I'm still waiting for that next earth
shattering sim that will someday come.

Other aircraft? It was just announced over at simhq that Black Shark is
a standalone product and will only have the Ka-50 to fly initially with
add-ons to come later. They are doing a detailed sim and not a survey
sim this time around. >> Stay informed about: Is the group officially dead? |

I was under the impression it's the final add-on to the LOMAC engine, and
will work like the Flaming Cliffs add-on. If you're right then this is a
major blow to BS sales.
http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=26101
Looks like you're right. Now I'm cheesed off. It'll take ED about a
million years to add an Su-27/35 to this tweaked engine.
Bollox. Still, it generally pays to expect to be disappointed by ED. They
somehow manage to give with one hand and take with the other every time
they release something.

I know, I know, these days we have to be grateful for whatever we get.
But I was *really* looking forward to seeing what was possible with the
new mission editor and the old aircraft. This is a major disappointment
for me, so you're going to have to forgive me if I throw a few toys out
of my pram.
Give me a few days to get used to this and I may start to find some
enthusiasm for BS. Then again this may just mark the end of my turbulent
love affair with ED's work. There are only so many times your lover can
be unfaithful before you have to divorce them.

First add-ons will be Apache heli and A-10. They are saying they plan to
release new add-on planes/heli's about every 9 months. The planes will
be more high fidelity than what you get in LOMAC too. We will see, I'm
being positive about it and looking forward to a detailed heli sim. Also
they are now considering other CP besides the infamous Starforce. >> Stay informed about: Is the group officially dead? |
