I know you can start the engines on the 787-800 with the APU, but can
you start them with ground power? In real life, it looks like most
aircraft are started with power from the ground, rather than from an
APU, at least at large airports with extensive facilities.

I believe you will need the 'bleed air' from the APU to start the first
engine. If you can get the ground crew to bring out a "HUFFER", a portable
machine that uses compressed air to spin the turbine in the engine. Ground
Power won't do that. Google HUFFER and read about them there.

Thanks. The manual doesn't mention huffers or ground starts, so I
guess they aren't possible. Oh well, I can get by with an APU.
