Anyone know of any good portal add-ons or mods?

Cows portal map, AB test, Sidewinder, Stations are very good. I haven't
tried them all so there's bound to be more good ones.

If you want difficulty try Saved by the cake and SS Orangebox. I can't get
either one. Anyone that does please post a walkthrough here.

Have fun.

How about the ability to play through Half-Life 2, HL2 Episodes, or
other Source-powered games with the portal gun in-hand? This is not a
real mod, but a very funny thing to do, believe me Wink

That is insane!...It'd make HL2 a very easy game though....

I doubt it - This is just a couple of HL fans who have imported HL2 maps
into the Portal folder (it works because Portal's .dll is a HL2-based
modification, and allows access to all HL2 content).

I noticed a comment about trying this with CS:S and TF2 - something
which almost certainly couldn't work, since the CS:S and TF2 content
isn't available to mods as standard.

For that matter, I don't believe that Valve ever released an SDK for
portal *[1], which is a shame, because it means that noone will ever be
able to take Valve's portal code and modify it (It would have to be
rewritten from scratch). This pretty much kills any hope of a portal
DM mod, unfortunately.

*[1] I could be wrong about this, its been a while since I looked into
the SDK Source code.

An SDK for Portal already exists! Here you can download and upload
costum maps

You misunderstand - To create a map merely needs an FGD file and
Hammer/Worldcraft or some other mapping tool.

SDK stands for Software Developers' Kit, in other words, DLL source code
which allows you to extend portal's game functionality (Such as has been
released for HL2 and HL2DM). Audio/visual content such as maps, models,
textures and sound do not change the underlying functionality of portal
itself - the game's behaviour is still Portal, even if it looks like HL2.

Since multiplayer comes under the 'functionality' category, there'd be
no way to force portal to work properly in multiplayer, unless it had
already been coded in the DLL (It may have been, though I'm not aware of
it - Portal was supposed to be SP only AFAIK). The same would be
true for any co-existence with portal between CS:S and TF2 content, eg,
getting portal to behave like CS:S. The most you'd be able to do would
be import models/maps, and get the game to 'look' like CS:S or TF2.

The new SDK for modifying OB games has been released as Beta today

That's good news Smile Valve's wiki only mentions Ep2 though. I really
do hope they add portal to the list of available Source SDK base mods Smile
