| I have really enjoyed playing Morrowind which is the first game of
this kind i have played. I'd like to try another one but think
Oblivion is too much for my computer in terms of power needed. Are
thee any other games out there like Morrowind?

Many people who like Morrowind also liked the Gothic series, but I
personally found the interface of those games quite difficult to use.
Still, if what you like about Morrowind is the detailed world and
freedom of action, the Gothic series is one of the few that attempts
that sort of thing.

There are two other games in the Elder Scrolls series. You can
download Arena from this site:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/tenth_anniv/tenth_anniv.htm for free. The
other one is Daggerfall and I think the only place you would be able
to find it is Ebay. If you are using any Windows OS newer than 98,
you will also need to download DosBox or another DOS simulator in
order to play these games.

Baldur's Gate (I & II) is a possibility. I flip between Morrowind and
Baldur's Gate as my favorite FRPG. Keep in mind that they are very
different in style from Morrowind. Baldur's Gate is not as open-ended,
but more so than most games. It's strength lies in the NPCs and
storyline, which are the best I've come across. >> Stay informed about: other games? |

What do you mean by games "like Morrowind"?
Another fantasy role playing single-player game I like is Neverwinter
Nights. Another is Jade Empire.
Another role playing game I like (not Fantasy, unless you think of Star
Wars as fantasy) is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. And its
sequel.

The Might and Magic series of games and the Wizardry series are
similar. Both companies are defunct, but gave a great series of games
for over a decade each. MM6,7,8 and Wizardry 8 are closer to modern
graphics and form. >> Stay informed about: other games? |

Heh, I used to think M&M6 had the *hugest* world in
an RPG I'd ever seen. Then I discovered Morrowind.

You might want to try the expansions to Morrowind, if you haven't yet. Also
many of the mods are like playing a new game.

I've been playing it since it came out. While I take respits to do
other things, I've come back to Morrowind again and again. There are
many mods I've never finished...my characters often get distracted with
their own 'quests'. There are a huge number of good mods for the game. >> Stay informed about: other games? |

Many thanks for all your suggestions. I have also tried Tribunal and
have nearly finished Bloodmoon. The suggestion of trying some mods
seems like a good one so I can try that as well as some of the other
games.
What I like about Morrowind? Well..
The huge size of a realistic world that I can move about in
The lots of side quests
The NPCs
It isn't just a shoot to kill everything kind of game
The feeling that even when I finish the main quest there are still
other things to do.
I have only gone throught the game with one (unmodified) character,
but I guess that if I start again with a different character and maybe
join a different house, there will still be things that I haven't done
before.
Sounds as if I am convincing myself that I don't really need to buy
another game!

Each of the three Great Houses does have its own set of House quests.

Some 5-star larger mods include
Havish
Haldenshore (primarily thieves quests)
Suran Underworld (primarily darker quests)
Nerevana's Twin Lamps and Slave Hunters
While Wolf of Lokken Mountain
You can look back in this newsgroup for 'mod reviews' and for other
threads asking about recommended mods. >> Stay informed about: other games? |

I couldn't agree more. And here are some more excellent, larger mods:
Amulet of Scrye (Accept quests from the dead)
Beyond Ysgramor
Booty Island (the best pirate mod I know of)
Illuminated Order (join a secret society of researchers)
Lothavor's Legacy (more like an adventure game, but great)
For Vampire Characters: Be sure to get the following mods:
Vampire Embrace
Vampire Realism
Vampiric Hunger
For those who enjoy role-playing:
Galsiah's Character Development
For mages and other magically talented Characters:
Magical Trinkets of Tamriel (MTT)
