You could also try unloaded/stopping any resident programs which may be
using up resources. Remove stuff like screensaver and background virus
checkers. I had someone ask me a similar question to this and managed to
solve it by creating another windows install on a second hard drive and
removing everything not needed and using that. A bit drastic, but it did
work. Personally, I would go for the memory option first as it's cheap
anyway and will make your system run a little better.
