I've noticed in the payment details section there is a greyed out button
saying "extend subscription". Presumably this will be selectable nearer
the end of the trial.

Managed to sort the mouse now, I've selected a key to turn mouse look on
and off, so that's working fine now.

It may be that they want you to buy the game in order to continue playing. >> Stay informed about: How Easy For A Newbie? |

Not just YOUR impression. As one of the English-speaking Scandinavians
having dropped out of GOA, I have to agree overall. For some reason the
European monopoly blew it as regards their English-speaking customers.
Getting the exact same game a month or a few months later with poorer
service is not a very compelling reason to stay. Especially since the US
has not just more servers but also more server types. I mostly play on
Gaheris, the world's only cooperative DAoC server. (Well, actually I
mostly play City of Heroes, but Catacombs is pretty addictive as well.)

In my opinion, the greatest asset of CoH is its interface, which is highly
visual and intuitive. Anything you need to know or do is right there,
slash commands are pretty much done away with. After less than a week, I
found it hard to come back to DAoC because of the confusing interface.
That was after playing it for more than two years. (I got it one month
after it was released, and has subscribed to it ever since.)
The catacombs engine makes some improvements in the interface, but it
still has a ways to go to catch up to CoH. On the other hand the games
are rather different in atmosphere so I don't see them as direct
competitors the way EQ and WoW are. And the good thing is that Mythic has
learned from newer games. Instanced indoors missions, for instance, were
a huge hit in City of Heroes, and they are at least as good in Catacombs.
WoW had bonus xp for people who played infrequently, DAoC has bonus
levels. Mythic may be slow learners (look how long it took to admit that
ToA was a problem) but they do shape up over time. Clustering, free
graphics upgrades and the new classic servers make the game age VERY
gracefully.

I'd have to agree. The interface is as you say.

The main reason I don't still play CoH is mainly the one I gave. I
just don't dig the Superhero thing like the North Americans do. Also
as a kid the villains were almost always the most appealing to me
rather than the, usually goodie goodie, heroes. Maybe I was just a
twisted kid? That's why I say I'll probably give CoV a whirl. Also the
PvP might be nice if handled well, because WoW PvP blows chunks as it
has no impact on the game and is just another prestige grind with the
honor system.
EQ2 is kak also, IMHO. What a wasted chance that was. Despite a
Hollywood movie budget SOE managed to blow it. They must have got a
real shock how badly it did. Imagine if they'd got it right with WoW
type accessibility and questing, with good high level raiding content
and a well executed Freeport v. Qeynos PVP system. They are also the
greediest hogs on the block by far. having to pay for small content
patches to make up for the content they left out of the game at
launch, amazing. Greedy gits deserve it to fail. Seems that company
will never learn.
I remain subscribed to their newsletter, and get their spam, simply
because it amuses me to receive their ever more desperate attempts to
get me back. Offering me a free month at the moment but I haven't
bothered, lol.
