I don't think Nethercite drops the residue, only the other outlands ore
types

well ive been lazy about picking herbs until this quest came out, even
though i dont see it as a daily quest which has to be finished.
i have to pick herbs anyway (for raiding) so i pick up the quest and get an
additional 16g & a rejuvenation potion for doing something that i'll do
anyway.

i have another alt who is miner & skinner but i only do that quest with my
herbalist Wink

One thing I've been wondering . . . is anyone seeing a big price
reduction recently on the AH for ore, herbs, etc.?

When this quest was first introduced I foresaw prices plummeting -
folks who may not have bothered mining, etc. before were doing so now,
so more people had ore, herbs, etc. However, the recent foray into the
world of selling Adamantite ore says otherwise. Since profession-
manufactured products often sell for way less than the materials
needed to make them (at 368 BSing, I'm making the Felsteel Helm for
level points, and I could get 10 times more for the Felsteel), I'm
wondering where all this "extra" ore, herbs, etc. is going.

Well gems from the ore via prospecting tons of new gear that needs
gems, pots from the herbs for people trying new content. My server is
now doing 5 mans instead of pvp when they aren't raiding bc of all the
new pve content w/ this patch.

Yeah, I just thought that with the increase in mining/gathering herbs/
etc., there'd be a 5,000% rise in the amount of ore, etc. listed on
the AH. But when I listed my Adamantite ore last weekend, there were
only about 4 other auctions listed - a few stacks of 20 ore. That's
it. And they were over-priced. Probably why mine sold so fast.

For me anyway, I'm not a JCer, so I'm not prospecting the ore I mine.
Where my BSing is now, I need several expensive mats along with
Adamantite to make something to gain a level, so I'm just making
Felsteel for the Helm. As a result, I'm not doing anything with all
this Adamantite ore I'm mining. Just thought there'd be an increase in
auctions due to this quest creating excessive ore, etc.

If it's any consolation (and I know it's not), they seem to have
dropped the drop rate for skinners a bit. The last three days or so
it's taken me at least twice as long to complete the quest, even had
to leave it uncompleted when I had to leave for work yesterday,
finishing it up last night when I got back. Roughly two twenty minute
sessions where I used to finish it easily in five to ten minutes. I'm
*not* QQ-ing, and I do understand that it's still much better than
either other profession, just making an observation Wink

Something else has affected the price of ore as well...the nerf/botch
of green gem drops in mining. Green gems no longer drop from any
Outlands node, and as such, the only way to get them are the
occasional mob drop and prospecting.

<wild speculation> Given the drop rate of Nether Residue for the
gathering daily, someone screwed up the coding and replaced green gem
drops with Nether Residue. </wild speculation>

Since green gems are needed for Metagem XMutes, Shatter Glass JCing
and basic green gem cuts - ore prices are stable/increasing on most
servers. Green gem prices (cut and uncut) have skyrocketed on most
servers as well.

Mana Thistle has consistently given me a better than 50% drop rate. The
spawn point at the portal and just NE by the trees and path come back
every 2-3 minutes.

Yep. I found Nether Residue on an Adamantite Vein there last night.

I do complete it every day, but I do it by flying out to Nagrand and
farming Heavy Clefthoof leather from the herd up between Garadar and
Laughing Skull Ruins. By the time I have the eight, I usually have between
1/4 to 1/2 a stack of leather which sells quite nicely on the AH on my
server. (I've been gettting around 80g/20 lately.)

Netherdust pollen and Nethermine Flayers (herbalism and skinning,
respectively) don't drop them either.

Well, there's another economic angle to consider: gold is probably
starting to devalue because of the ease with which it can be gathered, so
its possible that the decrease in prices from more inventory being
available is being offset by the inflation which results from devauled
currency.

Too soon to say for sure, but I honestly think that 25 dailies is too many.
I can easily make 250-300g in 3 hours now, which feels slightly absurd.

True but the novelty will wear off - I was doing about 20 dailies per day
the first 2-3 weeks but now I'm sick of them, do 7-8 per day now and that's
enough, can't even bring myself to start the repgrinds on a 2nd character
since finishing it on the first. So while there's a big spike of money
coming into the economy right now, it'll slow down a little over time I
think. It needs to tbh, even with not doing as many dailies I'm still
getting richer and richer...

I do that on my main too, she's a skinner though. My secondary is a miner.
Actually I found a good time to find the mines with nether residue is about
my lunchtime at work:-) I just fly around Zangermarsh and by the time I get
to the other end, I've usually found enough. Weekend is hard
though........thanks for your input:-)
