You know, I am fairly certain this game will sell big time on the 360, maybe
even passing Halo3, maybe. If that happens, I see this game taxing older
360s and this may cause the last spate of RRoD and weed them almost totally
out.

this is exactly why I picked up the GTA3/Vice City combo pack a few years
back. was really impressed with its technical merits and had fun for a few
hours before the novelty of running down pedestrians, procuring hookers, and
the awful controls wore thin. I gave it another chance or two, but ended up
trading it. didn't even open Vice City. had next to zero interest in San
Andreas, and have next to zero interest in this iteration. sometimes a
style of game just isn't your style of game...

That's strange because I've read reviews that say the PS3 has WORSE
anti-aliasing. In fact, Smelly's recent post of the Kotaku blog
indicates that the textures and colors look worse in the PS3 version,
if not by much.

It's too bad you didn't move on to Vice City and San Andreas because
those two games were worlds better than GTA 3.

It was a little harder to get into the story in the first game because
your character was a lifeless shell who never spoke a word. At least
your characters in the other two games had personalities and
interacted very well with the other characters.

In fact, the acting in general was so much better in Vice City and San
Andreas. William Fichtner (FBI Agent Mahone for all you Prison Break
fans) was brilliant in both games and Luiz Guzman (Traffic, Boogie
Nights) played a hilarious villain in Vice City.

The cities were much more diverse and interesting in the second two
games as well (especially in San Andreas). Everything was just
designed so much better.

It's strange to look back on GTA 3 and see just how immature it looks
next to the much more fleshed out San Andreas.

That never bothered me because I'm good enough not to die.

If you just describe it as "a woman and a cowboy" that sounds dumb. If
they were cleanly and well integrated into the world, it could be
interesting. Who said that the dude was a blatant cowboy and not just
a soldier who happened to wear a cowboy hat?

Jesse Ventura looked pretty damn cool with one in Predator LOL.

I didn't see them. A friend of mine told me about them. I believe it was a
story / screenshots from the Game Informer magazine. They had a 10 page
blowout on the game. If true how corny is that? What is Epic thinking. Most
of the appeal with myself and Gears was the adult humor in the game.
Characters like that make it kind of kiddy to me.

Vice City infuriated me. The targeting was horrible, and when you
failed a mission it took forever to get back to the point where you

Kotaku review was one of the only ones to say that the 360 has better
colours and AA, all the others so far said it was better on the PS3.

I always thought that the 360 can handle AA better than the PS3, but
reports are coming in saying otherwise.
Take this report on Mercs 2:

"The world is going GTA IV crazy - and quite rightly so - but we've also
been catching up with another anticipated open-world action game,
Mercenaries 2. Developer Pandemic were on hand at a recent EA event,
with senior producer Jonathan Zamkoff ready to update us on the
Venezuelan bang-fest.

First, Zamkoff kicked off with a status report on the two console
versions. Currently the Xbox 360 version leads the way, with the
Sony-bound edition yet to be properly optimised for framerates and the
like - though remember that both versions are still at a very early
pre-Alpha stage. There's a lot more tweaking to be done.

But it sounds like PS3 might actually get the better looking version in
the end. Zamkoff reckons that PlayStation 3 is better than Xbox 360 at
anti-aliasing, which suggests to us that Sony's version will be a
sharper and perhaps more pleasing visual experience. We'll have to wait
until our own eyes see the evidence to get excited, but it's interesting
nonetheless."

It's possible, maybe to help with having to process a bit less to speed up
the game. Having said that, it appears the PS3 versions will have a bit
worse framerate problems though, and some muddier textures. I honestly don't
think it will make a difference, but load times can get annoying.

Well, that's why I'm counting on bootybandit to give us a report if he
gets both versions, or at least tries both. I think I'm pretty much
set on the 360 version, simply because the custom soundtrack will let
me have Springsteen's "Badlands" playing when I'm tearing up
Alderney's fake Jersey. And I definitely want more "vivid" colors- as
an example, I have Gears set up for the most vibrant setting.

As it stands, unless you really care about custom soundtracks the way
I do, I doubt either version will be a disappointment for those who
like the game in general.

I hope the fact that big games are not just clustered around the
holiday season this year registers with developers, and starts a new
trend. June holds Ninja Gaiden 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 for me, which
makes me glad I didn't blow that money on some of the lesser offerings
out there.......

I just found out that the PS3 version of GTA IV is only running at 630p,
while the 360 version is a full 720p.
Maybe thats why they can add more AA to the PS3 version..lol

I actually have no problem with this, as how many peoplle have such
discerning eyes as to tell the difference. Remember most having their arms
up inair over Halo3 not being true HD, and I still thought it looked pretty
good. I am still on the fence on getting it though, since that type of game
doesn't appeal to me. But the MP aspect seems to be great, and that does
have appeal. But, considering how shitty XBL has been with big name MP games
(COD4, Halo3 comes to mind), I am still wary to buy it.
